Inner Steering Arm Play

Featured Replies

Hoping someone can shed a bit of light on a query I have regarding the steering on my Scout.

Just been through it's MOT at local VW dealership - all ok except for an advisory on the steering.

It stated "slight play on inner rack joints".

Because it was on the steering, I asked how much play there was to which they replied it was only the nearside inner rack joint had slight play but was OK until next MOT.

I asked for a price to fix it to which they replied....£1800 (yes that's one thousand eight hundred pounds).

They said that the whole rack (@ £800+) needed to be replaced + track rod ends + wiring loom, because the steering arms are not available separately.

I find it hard to believe, that if the inner rack joint has worn that the entire rack needs replacing.

Surely you can buy a  genuine replacement steering arm conplete with the joint?

Can anyone advise on this?

cheers

I smell bull****, fairly sure you can get em, check with GSF should be £100 for Job at Indy roughly
