How Do I Find Out What Servicing Schedule I'm On?

Featured Replies

I'm buying my own oil for an upcoming service at my local indy (a friend's family business) and unsure if I'm after VW 502 or 504 (2011 FL VRS TSI). Buying a couple of bottles myself so I have the remainder for top ups, and having spoken to the garage, it's cheaper to buy my own, plus I know what I'm getting!.

502 http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-60125-gulf-formula-g-5w-40-fully-synthetic-engine-oil.aspx

504 http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-60131-gulf-formula-gvx-5w-30-fully-synthetic-engine-oil-for-vw-bmw-mercedes.aspx

I'm getting oil, all filters, plugs as it'll be the first service under my ownership.

The last 2 services were at 16k in Sept 2012 and 30k in Aug 14 at the same dealer the 1st owner bought the car from. It's now on 40k and the dash tells me a service is due in a few days.

How can I find out if I'm on a fixed or variable schedule? Can I find out through the maxidot?

You're on variable at those intervals/mileages.

Fixed servicing is done every 10k miles or once a year.

Great, thanks. I'll go for the 504 then.

I'd say the first two were variable but at the last service it was switched to fixed which is why it's expecting a service 1y/10k miles later. Meaning it's now on fixed servicing?

Possibly. As I do around 10k a year, I might just ask for it to be put onto fixed interval when it goes in.

Looking at OIls still, and I've found Smith & Allen as a local oil distributor, who do their own vw 502. Any thoughts on http://www.smithandallan.com/products/transport-engine/1851-smith-and-allan-unelite-m-fully-synthetic-engine-oil-5w-40-/ ?

20L for £50 is a good price :)

When I had mine last done with an MOT, it was changed to fixed without my consultation as suggested by Langers2k, I was told afterwards.

You can check what oil they used by referring to your service history book, there is a tick box for both variable and fixed. The people who performed the last service should have ticked one of them.

If you have Maxi Dot you can look in the service setting and it should tell you " Days till......... and I think milage until next service. "

Might give you an Idea about which service schedule your on

Disclaimer:-  I think

Or if you have VCDS you can check what the oil quality is set to as I believe this is how the car decides on fixed/variable servicing.

Would someone mind casting their eye over the following ECP basket to make sure they're the correct bits. I've the CCZA engine, so tried to go for the part with the engine code - unsure why two of each part comes up when i put my reg in on ECP - eg Part 507440209 vs 507440219 . I went for the one mentioning aircon  :S

Mann Air Filter
Part Number: 502440619
£8.86

Mann Oil Filter
Part Number: 501440469
£9.78

Mann Pollen Filter
Part Number: 507440219
£6.89

Mann Fuel Filter
Part Number: 503440939
£17.40

Bosch Spark Plug
Part Number: 408440210
£7.94ea x4 = £31.76

Total (inc discount code) £67.23

I'll give the local Skoda parts department a ring on Monday, but just want to gauge cost. If it's somewhere near, I'll jut get them from Skoda.

Service booked in now :)
