Key fob battery under warranty?

Featured Replies

My keyfob  died without warning today. I assume its just the battery, but its strange that its run out so fast as the car is less than 10 months old. My old VWs keyfob was identical and never needed changing in the ten years that I had it! Anyway, I know its probably not expensive to replace but is this something that would be covered by the warranty as its failed so prematurely? Anyone had this done?

Probably consumable.

But you could always ask the dealer. They might not be bothered on a car which is so young

For the sake of £1, it's hardly worth the bother, and as said wouldn't be covered anyway.

Has it actually stopped working, or just a message on the MFD saying "Renew key battery!" ?

I thought mine kept eating through batteries, but it seems the message on the MFD isn't very accurate, as the key fob still works fine!

Battery life seems to be poor on the mk2 fabia!

Doubt you'll get anywhere with a claim for a battery as said it'll be a consumable

OK thanks guys. Yep it is completely dead, there were no dash warnings. Worked fine this morning then a couple of hours later there was nothing. So is it as simple as just pulling the fob in half and then swap over? Never had to do one before!

Dealer charged me a tenner to change the battery in the key fob!

A tenner for 45seconds work!!!!

Perhaps I should come out of retirement and rejoin the industry!

£1 per 5 seconds.

BARGAIN!

Got mine on 2009 and both batteries work fine still to this day. You probably got a bad one.

Thanks for the input guys. I have replaced the battery now. Once I saw what battery it took it turns out I actually had a spare one of those because my kitchen scales use them as well. Key fob working again, I just hope it lasts longer this time.
