Well after over four years and two 2WD 1.2 TSI SE Yeti's we are now buying a VW Tiguan R-Line. Will miss having a Yeti in the family and we seriously considered buying a third one as a local dealer was doing some exceptional deals on pre-registered Elegance spec 1.2's. But my wife and I are just not overly keen on the generic facelift that Skoda gave the car.

We also wanted something different and VW were doing deals on the Tiguan that made for an irrestible package on what is a very nice car. So farewell to all on what has always been a very helpful forum.

Cheers,

David

Yeah Tony was over £5k off which basically brought it into line with a drive the deal price and the same price as a six month old one we looked at with 3k miles on it.

Same with the run out deal on the Yeti which was around £4K off but that was against a pre-reg car so not quite as good as the VW deal.

Nearly ten days ago I posted that I was replacing our second Yeti with a Volkswagen Tiguan R-line. This would have been my first ever diesel engined car in over twenty five years of motoring and countless cars. The VW diesel scandal/crisis very quickly put an end to that. My wife and I, worried about how our car would be affected by potential recalls and an increase in depreciation withdrew from the deal for our new Tiguan....

That's interesting (and good luck with your new Yeti)...

Technically I would expect new Tiguans to be the latest unaffected diesel. For sure there will be some future backlash against diesel emissions but I would expect EU6 cars to be relatively safe, and I would not expect petrol engines to escape future scrutiny. Looks like a lean few months ahead for VW dealers ... although its quite clever how VW have kept their other brands (e.g. Audi, Seat and Skoda) out of the spotlight...

Disregarding any possible Government intervention, would not a PCP contract with a good GFV protect the buyer?

I've never taken out a PCP but yes I'm sure you would have a guaranteed future value against your car. Although whether that value would be high enough to reassure you might be a different matter.

Our Tiguan was EU6 compliant but who's to say those engines won't be implicated in some way or other in the future? Although to be honest our biggest fear was just that VW diesels in general would get a bad reputation for a few years at the very least and we would take a big hit when we came to sell. We have done so well depreciation wise with both our Yetis because of the high demand that we didn't want to blow what we have built up over the last few years on what would be a high risk purchase for us. It's that reason that will keep buyers like us away from Volkswagen diesels. People purchasing cars on a PCP might not be so concerned if they plan to just walk away anyway.
