Superb 220Tsi L&K

Featured Replies

Good Morning

I recently posted in the Octavia forum to gain thoughts on a new Octavia as I am being given a new car as part of a living inheritance.

Following a showroom visit this weekend, the offer has been amended considerably......  The persons concerned sat in a L&K Superb and loved it completely, so after discussing the numbers with them the result is buy it.

As this is the first new car I have ever owned and how it is being purchased I want to obviously make sure I don't mess up, they will know and will be travelling in it frequently and on long haul holidays to the Austria Alps, hence could I ask for peoples thoughts and opinions.  I appreciate that the Superb Mk3 is new and people are still waiting patiently or should that be impatiently for theirs to be delivered.

At the moment the spec I am looking at is the:

  • 2.0L 220ps TSI DSG (has to be petrol as my main commute is about 10 miles each way a day on country roads)
  • Brown interior with the grey headlining
  • 18 inch wheels

Some additions to the car are:

  • Spare Wheel
  • Quartz Grey paint
  • Rear Window Wiper
  • Rear Backrest Release from boot
  • Heated Washers
  • Smart Light Assist
  • Traffic Assist
  • Rear Camera
  • Extended Warranty & Servicing

Obviously will be getting GAP insurance, have seen the five year one at ALA for a good price (~£350) that returns to the invoice price plus any price rises.  Will be refusing to the dealer touch the paintwork to prepare the car, instead I have a good recommendation for a detailer who will do a professional job which is a two minute drive from the dealership.  He has quoted ~£500 for two days worth of work, http://www.deep-shine.co.uk/newcar.html.

  • Have I missed anything?
  • Will the dealer try and throw anything at me to get me to buy?
  • Do I have to buy anything specific or do anything specific to the seats to ensure they last etc?

Will be test driving the Superb (Manual) in two weeks and he has said he will have a 230ps DSG Octavia for me to try for the gearbox. My intention is to place the order after that so that it is in the system and have no problems with it arriving for the 1st March.

Many thanks and appreciate your time.

Paul

If travelling abroad it's a good idea to request Euro GB number plates are fitted to the car on delivery. If not you may end up with the plain ones meaning you'll need to use a GB sticker. There shouldn't be any charge for this request.

The dealer may try to flog you their own gap / car / minor damage insurance or extras like lifeshine. None of these usually end up being good value and you are best to get them elsewhere as you have found. Don't let them try to negotiate on those things if they are thrown in or reduced to get your order if you don't need them.

Thanks "l4wrence", I had not thought about number plates - I had assumed it would come with GB plates as standard.  Added to my list to request.

The detailing looks to be very expensive!

It depends what is covered by the detailing package. From the link provided it looks about right. I am going with a GTechniq Protection Detail including Crystal Serum upgrade from KDS which will be about £700: http://www.kdskeltec.co.uk/price-menu/protection-detail-packages/g-techniq

Of course you could go all out and get a Modesta coating which will set you back 1.5K+ for a new car detail: http://www.miracledetail.co.uk/services.html

Thanks Gents, yes having spoken with the Detailer Guy, he has said a confirmed price of £550 and it will take 2.5days.  He has said that he will:

  • Triple wash to remove any contaminants
  • Measure paint depth
  • Light mechanical polish to remove minor problems
  • C1 Crystal Lacquer the car
  • The put another layer of a different lacquer ontop - did not get the code but it was GTechniq.
  • Do the windows
  • Do the alloys
  • Do the fabrics
  • Do the leather
  • Do the plastics
  • Do the engine compartment

Apparently the base layer the C1 is good for 2/3 years providing that it is washed carefully which it will be.

A member of the family has suggested that I also order mud flaps front and back, looking in the book it would have to be a dealer addition.  Are they worth it - I do live in Lincolnshire so we do not always have the cleanest of roads and the local highways do love the tar and grit road coverings.

Try and get a deal on winter tyres?

Why is 100 miles each way on country roads an issue for diesel? I have a Superb MkII, it's the 140bhp 2.0 TDI, I drive 8 miles each way on country roads to work and never have any issues. Never seen the DPF light come on in 3 years of ownership. I once a month do a run of about 50miles or more, but the DPF appears to be OK with my style of use.

Why are manufactured even allowed to put plates on without the Euro GB bit? All my cars have always had Euro GB plates as my local Skoda deal only fits those, but why not just force this upon dealers by law and do away with the silly GB ovals?

Likely it will be either EXO or Crystal Serum. EXO adds self cleaning to the scratch resistance and hard wearing C1. Crystal Serum is a whole new ball game of super coating.

To maintain the Gtechniq abilities use Gtechniq Gwash car shampoo to wash and C2v3 as a drying aid to top up the protection. For interiors I2ab for cleaning all surfaces and C6ab for dressing plastics and giving it a factory fresh lustre and G6 for all glass.
