Lead-times

Featured Replies

Couldn't see a specific post for this anywhere else so thought I'd start new as a place for Superbian's to share factory order lead times

There's been some negativity around this subject of late - on the back of positive press, keen pricing and strong demand no doubt - so to start things off with my own experience:

2.0tdi Business SE Estate in business grey with canton sound system & spare wheel.

Estimated 12 week delivery

Order signed at dealers 28th August.

Order progressed by dealer on 7th September.

Order confirmed accepted by factory, but no scheduled build date... :-(

Dear All,

I'm new to the site, and just wanted to add to this topic I have just ordered my new superb 1.4tsi ACT SEL-Exec on the 18th of September and I have been told it could be up to 6 months for delivery, I only added parking sensors to the front as optional extras and I opted for the Pacific Blue colour as I thought it looked nice and the only other colour i considered was the brilliant silver (thought that might be a bit common) got a decent £2900 discount by quoting CARWOW quote I got, Really happy but a bit disappointed with the long waiting time. Is this common?

Thanks

The 3 new Skodas I've had in the past have taken 3 months from order to dealer.

Looks like this Superb will be the exception to the rule for me. Ordered August 24th and confirmed build week of this week.

I guess I was just lucky to get my order in early ......

Mk Mk2 took 9 months.

I ordered mine at the weekend and was told 10 to 12 weeks delivery, thought it might be longer but 6 months!

My p/ex that I was allowed £11,000 on will have 100,000 miles on the clock and be worth about £8,000 by then, so the dealer will take quite a hit there!

I was tweeted by Skoda UK that lead time was 14 weeks from August 1st although order placed in July.....unconfirmed build week 45.

Ermmm.... I wouldn't be too sure about that! If you present your car in a considerably different condition (including significantly higher mileage) to when you were offered your part-ex price, I'd be amazed if you're not the one taking the hit in depreciation...

That's happened to me before (not with Škoda), although after threatening to cancel for breach of contract the salesman fiddled the numbers so the bottom line still read the same value.

For my Superb III the dealer, Garlands, has guaranteed the trade-in value if there is any delay.

However, as my car is being built (been built?) this week, that's not actually become an issue (unless it falls of the transporter or the ship sinks between there and here!).

280PS hatchback with many options.

Lead Time (order to production) = 9 weeks. Add 3 to 4 weeks for delivery/preparation.

I was told by my dealer (Caffyns, Tunbridge Wells) that there are no delays and also because of my specification I might even get the car quicker than 10 to 12 weeks.

When did you order your car? if it was in September there may be hope for me yet getting the car before xmas.

The dealership told me that the trade-in value would drop by between £150 - £200 per month, (meaning my car was worth nothing in just over two years time) and the trade-in wasn't that great in the first place so I told them I would sell it privately and avoid an even bigger hit. We buy any car offered £750 more than the dealership.

Yes, that's what happened with the Renault dealership who tried to knock a £1,000 off the agreed trade-in when the car arrived 6 months later than forecast. As it was the incompetence of the dealership I was able to brow-beat them into reducing the price of the car to match the loss on trade-in.

That's why I was pleasantly surprised that Garland Motors guaranteed the trade-in price, which was higher than the Parkers "trade-in" value and only slightly under "A-grade private sale value".

PS I modified my initial post to include lead time, as that's what this thread is about. ;)

You did well to get them to guarantee your trade in, At least my dealership was upfront about the reduction in the trade in and the lead time of up to 6 months (ouch).

I just keep telling myself it will be worth the wait.

Just spoke to me dealer and he has told me that they would honour the trade in price even if it went to six months before delivery and he was still inssiting that there is no delay on delivery times and I will have the new car within 12 weeks.

  • 2 weeks later...

If it is of any help, I ordered mine (L&K DSG 190 4x4 Combi) during the last weekend of August and the car arrived in the UK today. Dealer estimates another 10 days until they get it followed by a week to PDI and prepare it.

That's a pretty quick turnaround.

10 days from where to where?!

Well mine's now spent a full week rusting at Grimsby :-D

Aren't you close enough to go and rescue it?

Yes. Yes I am lol ! Transport order raised so not long now :-)

I've been using google maps / google earth to look at Emden - the German port. Fascinating logistics journey our cars are going through...

There's a little group of houses here:  Narvikstraße 9, 26723 Emden, Germany right on the very corner of the port. What a way out place to live!

All around the area are vast car parks full of new cars waiting to be driven onto ships.

By comparison, Grimsby doesn't look so great ....

Have you been to Grimsby?

Like Giz says only good thing about Grimsby is its close to Cleethorpes.... Takes me just over an hour to get to Cleethorpes. If you get their around 9am on a nice summers day you can have the beach to yourself. If the tides in its lovely..... No honestly !

^^^ Sorry Nick, you're just not selling it for me.
