suitable upgrade for MFD2?

Featured Replies

Has anyone upgraded their MFD2? I am looking to replace mine It works fine but im finding lack of mp3 support frustrating and the maps for the SATNAV are old.

Therefore my requirements:

Must have:

1. Double DIN Fit in standard aperture and facia

2. MP3 via usb/sd card etc.

3. SATNAV with updatable Maps.

4. NO Battery Drain issues

5. Codeable using VCDS

Desirable:

6. DAB

7. WIFI / BLUETOOTH CONNECTION TO SAMSUNG / APPLE PHONE

This is to go in my MY06 OCTY TFSI VRS.

The Amundsen+ (RNS315) and Columbus (RNS510) both come in DAB variants, there is also the Amundsen (RNS310) which doesn't have DAB variant.

Bluetooth can be added to all using an appropriate kit although some variants of the Amundsen+ (RNS315) will have BT built in.

Battery drain issue can be fixed by changing the can gateway which is super easy on that age of car and you would probably need a couple of antenna adaptors as I don't think the MFD2 units use Fakra as all the above do.

All of them have current maps available at different price points.

If you're looking to go 3rd party, popular choices are a couple of Kenwood units otherwise there is a massive selection of different WinCE and Android based units.

You can update the maps on the MFD2, although the CDs are pricey. 2014 is the latest and last though http://www.bluespot.co.uk/shop-online.aspx/blaupunkt-dx-map

For upgrade I'd look at the Columbus if you want continued integration with the maxidot.
