mot fail!

Featured Replies

so usual halfords bull**** number plate light bulb, rear indicators also not yellow.

main ones were drivers front brake line split

and driver side ball joint cover split allowing ingress of dirt

any ideas how easy this last one is?

octavia vrs

I had to replace a ball join on a fabia, was a few bolts, then use a ball join splitter to pop it apart, but you will need to get your tracking done after new one is put in

A fail is a fail.

If it was mine I would want to know if there are any faults.

I would rectify them myself and be pleased to know that the job was done.

If you can't do it yourself then you have to pay someone to carry out the works.

For a lot of people that sort of price would be fine with them. Halfords are in business as we all are and price accordingly.

You will always find somewhere cheaper and you may find somewhere that carries out the work to a higher standard but unless you try different places, you will never know.

HTH.

got no issues with it failing, i do have issues with someone charging 21.43 for a bulb.  that is not pricing accordingly, my company would never think of charging someone 21,43 to change something as small as a bulb which costs a couple pound at best.

As I said, they are a business.

My son is a mechanic and works for Volkswagen at one of their flagship dealerships, you really don't want to know what they charge, that really is criminal!

They Make Halfords seem like a charity.

well i nicked the cv boot replacing the ball joint dnt ask!   so i need to replace that tomorrow , do i just tap the cv joint off to fit the boot/??

Why did you not do a pre mot check yourself to avoid this!

  • Author

aye i shoulve but im  no mechanic so i wouldntve seen everything.

anyhow sorted the boot and joint not a hard job just getting the nut off the top where is hits the cv joint is ****,

just brake pipe to go,

so this morning after fitting ball joint, and refitting obv the cv joint and boot. which i packed full of grease.    drove the car and it has a awfull squeal much like metal on metal, i have a sneakey feeling its the metal rusty plate that sits behind the hub rubbing something.  its not constant so maybe is rubbing due to tracking?

any ideas.

Jack it up and spin the wheels.

Check carefully everything that you have done!

  • Author

thats me plan. i can only imagine its something fouling the wheel/hub.   the cv joint wouldnt make that type of noise

was the rusty old disc guard , anyone know the part number for it?
