L&K now in my possession

Featured Replies

I'm changing the boot lights for LED today as I took them out of my old Superb, I can live with the door lights.

I noticed this morning as it was dark that the footwell lights stayed on whilst driving!

And as it was peeing it down with rain the rear wiper was used on intermittent, it was great to have a clear view, on reverse parking very clear not what I've been used to. pleased that rear wiper was added to my order.

  • I did about 10 miles in the peeing rain and it was easing off (still raining lightly) when I got to my destination. Remembering BurialConstant's comment I grabbed a picture of the rear view display...

As you've got one now, perhaps you can tell everyone what the 'high' means in the LED rear light cluster spec?

Surely the footwell lights on your MKII were lit at night also... it's certainly possible to enable them.

I doubt I will use the interior mirror to reverse as I always use the door mirrors (having the RVC will help also)

The footwell lights went out when the interior lights dimmed on the MK 2.

Your camera will be more or less useless in the rain, a mate has one on his car, brilliant for trailers and caravans though,  thank god for those reversing sensors!

Not tried a car fitted with a camera yet, but we have several truck trailers with them fitted and they seem to cope fine with rain and road spray, I'm hoping the car will be as good??

We have them on loading shovels and dumpers and are no good in the rain or cold mornings!

The footwell lights can stay on though. It can be changed in the maxi dot. I have mine on permanently at 50%

You could turn them up in the S2 (at least in my elegance trim) so they are always on to quite a decent level of brightness via maxidot. The car did have the extra interior lighting though.

InfiniteDreamer, do the front parking sensors activate automatically as seen in Passat and other executive cars? In SII, you can activate front ones only by pressing the PDC switch.

OK  mine don't auto switch on when your Columbus is on, however I switched the unit off and a nice large clock appears when you start again and remains there, moving off and getting close to a object there was half size box came on to the left of the Columbus with sensors warning me! so might be a box in the menu system to enable,  it's a learning curb as a lot of gadgets and not had time to test everything!

Similarly I got in the car, admittedly not first thing in the morning but rather later at night, when I grabbed this picture. The temperature had dropped from a mild day to a bitter night. The car had stood for a few hours and the inside glass of the car was misted and the entire outside covered in moisture (you certainly couldn't see out the rear window)...

I'll leave you to decide for yourselves if it's useless - or not.

I promise you I did not touch/clean the camera.

Well that's me proven wrong then! image is very good on those pictures!

Parked the car near a wall and the same box came on to the left whilst the satnav was on, it seems it only comes on when you are very close to an object and has a very limited range,

so the parking sensors do come on automatically.

In general how are you finding such a big car to park in supermarkets etc?

Easy because I'm always as far away from other cars as I can get :-)

The actual manoeuvring of the car has never been a problem for me. My only real issue has been the length of the car, for both my Mk II and the Mk III.

Most supermarkets I visit have bays that are marked shorter than the actual length of the car, meaning the front or rear protrudes beyond the bay, making it a target for trolley pushers (twice I returned to find small scratches upon returning to my Superb II estate  :'().

Reverse parking into a bay with an estate also means leaving a little extra space to open the tailgate so I mostly parked nose-in (which is not my preference).

Now that I've switched to the hatch it opens without needing additional rear space and opens so wide you can easily load bags from the side - so long as the numpties next to you haven't parked door mirror to door mirror!

Easy because I'm always as far away from other cars as I can get :-)

Where I live that means shopping at night!!!
