confirming winter tyre suitability

Featured Replies

I think you're right but I'm going to follow this thread because they're the tyres I was planning to get (+ some 18" wheels) when my VRS arrives.

Fairly sure I'm right too but with a 3.5 week old daughter in sleep deprived and don't know which way is up..... So feel the need to get it confirmed!

I looked up d3 and a3 nokian after reading good reviews last year.  I assume but don't know that the d4 is a new d3?  So I guess all d4s will be this years (new) rubber?

To be honest I've just purchased some D4 in 205/55/R16 to go on the 6.0J steel wheels I have.

The cost saving of the tyres and the not having to get them changed on the rim every 6 months paid for the steels.

If you want to stay 18" all year, why not look at the nokians they have for all year round?

I don't have a VRS, and for that I think you need 17" wheels to cover the front brakes.

Steel 16"s are no use to the OP, having a vRS. 17" minimum is required.

And the saving at 17" vs 18" is not so large, so I decided to buy myself a set of 18" rims.

What rims did you go for?

Congrats :) I've got that to look forward to.

I'm thinking the same re: having a spare set of alloys to save wear and tear on the rims and tyres.

Plus I'm going from a 4x4 on fat tyres (bumoing up kerbs etc.) to Octavia on 19" Xtremes - I don't fancy their chances throughout the winter.

18" x 8" Borbet bs5 in gun metal.  From my tyres or one of those German website, they were about £72 each in the summer
