Octavia 11 won't rev & thick black smoke

Featured Replies

My octavia tdi when pulling out of a junction went to over Rev and then shut down now it only starts won't Rev and throws out black thick smoke can anyone help

Did it go with a pop?

It could be a loose turbo hose. Have you looked under the bonnet?

No checked them it revved high then nothing on throttle but plooms of black smoke got a p0299 fault code it's only done 85000

High revs and smoke together sound like diesel runaway but probably it's not. I doubt that it would end so simply...

The problem is on the air inlet side so check all pipes, intercooler and then turbo. Hopefully you'll find it well before getting to the turbo

Yeah checked all pipes to intercooler and out think it could be turbo ,what are they like to get off anyone also had pipe off turbo spindle is OK think it may be jammed open on shut off dunno gone have to see

Something similar happened to me back when I had a Mondeo TDI - EGR was the problem then.......but I don't know if the same symptoms would be exhibited on an Octavia........my Octy is petrol so I'm out of the diesel game for now.......hope you get it sorted though!!!

Throughout the time I had the Mondeo, I replaced 2 EGRs, first at 65K miles, the next at 85K miles. My dad bought the car from me when I went for the Octy - he just replaced the EGR again at about 110K miles.....  For the Fords anyway, most of the replacement ones that you get are refurbished as you get some money back when you hand in the old one - not sure about Skoda/VW policy on this!

Yeah my friend bought Mondeo Titanium-X 2.2 diesel. She had it 2 weeks (second hand though with 27k miles on the clock) and came to see me and an EPC light came on. I plugged in my Bluetooth dongle and sure enough it flagged up an EGR fault. Got it replaced under warranty but when it went again less than 30k miles later she got rid. Had a couple of other issues too but can't remember what now.

I have now found the problem my impeller on my exhaust side of turbo has snapped off and blocked exhaust now have the task of replacing wot a bummer

That's both unlucky and unusual. What caused the impeller to break off?

I think the previous owner did 3 miles a day in town and it just got carbon build up which when I gave it a good boot full released it clogging the impeller but I will know more when I replace it

I would make sure the oil supply line is replaced too as the carbon build up is usually quite soft and not enough to imped the impeller.

Could be sticky veins in the turbo.
