Octavia vrs mk2 petrol gets hot in traffic (goes above 90 degrees).

Fans don't kick in. Sometime if car gets hot the high speed fan will kick in after i have switched the engine off... Sound strange to you? But it wont run while im driving the car haha.

 

Also the air-con doesn't work either. when aircon is engaged (ECON button turned off) the smaller slow speed fan is meant to come on right? Well it doesn't. don't get anything moving.

 

Temp of car stays steady at 90 degrees C if im moving. only a problem in traffic.

 

I have checked forums which discuss specific faults but i haven't quite found someone with the same problems as me yet. Was just hoping somebody with some knowledge could break down the order in which i should test/ replace things. 

 

Checked fuses, that's as far as it has gone. i am happy to take stuff apart just need help with what measurements to take or what bits to check!

 

If anyone can help me i would really appreciate it, Anytime i need to go on a long journey i get nervous as i cant guarantee the journey will be traffic free.

Sounds like ur fans have packed up mine did the same , got a 2nd hand set and boom back to life air con and the fans worked again

Really? That would be great. How much did you pay? Also my fans do both work when engine gets hot and I turn engine off. Did Yours do this?

Yea mine did that it's the controller that's dead, I found a set on eBay for £40 and fitted them myself .

Still worth running a scan on the car with Vcds as mine bought up the fault codes for it

The brushes inside the motor have possibly stuck/not connecting, Strip the motor out of the fan housing, Easy job.

Not sure with the  petrol but I got parts of the air con changed on my car. Both fans wernt working during the heat wave! Tad warm in the car. 

Ah I see. Yes I will get a scan done and have a look. I noticed the other day when car was hot. I stopped the engine. Fans kicked in and both of them were spinning so don't think it's the brushes/motor problem. DanGray u say it's the controller in the fan assembly. Would an engine management light not come up for this? Will maybe check ebay out for some second hand fans

Yea my air con only worked when car was up to temperature but was defo the fans, no had no light but did come up on the scan
