I have searched the forum but couldn't find this topic for the mk3 Octavia.

 

I have only the stock head unit in my car so was wondering if it is a 'straight swap' to change to the other units as I see they are readily available on eBay?

There is mention on here somewhere. I believe it's not plug and play like on the mk2FL.

I think each unit is coded to the car.

Though I could be wrong.

Component Protection

 

Each head unit is locked to a chassis number. Also, your chassis number is not licensed for Navigation.

 

It is do-able, but at some cost/inconvenience. There are European companies that sell the MIB1 units and will license them to your chassis number.

Not sure about the Kenwood 'plug and play' units that seem to be available now and if this is the same, but there is an Axion module that give sat nav to the existing Bolero - see this post...
