Monte Carlo 1.2 TSI engine, any problems?

Featured Replies

Hi, I am looking at buying a Fabia Monte Carlo with a 105 horse 1.2 TSI engine and was wondering if there is anything I should look out for i terms of common issues ect. If anyone who owns a car with this engine and had had problems, or otherwise, I would be greatful for the feedback. Thanks.

I traded up about 3 months ago from a Monte Tech with the same engine, loved it, I just needed more space and roof bars for my bike racks.

I had no problems with it other than the pulling to the left which affected some but not all Montes, Skoda replaced all 4 tyres with Pirelli P Zeros and this seemed to cure it but it only had 12k on the clock when I traded it in so long term I wouldn't know if the problem would return.

Early 1.2tsi engines had a recall for a turbo shim to be fitted (failing turbo on early engines)

Cam chain was also prone to stretching on early cars. Newer cars have a newer 'revised' chain.

Thanks for this, I'll ask them to check if it's been re-called at all when I go to look at it.

What would be classified as early? Pre 2011?

Any lesser known issues on later engines?

Looking on SeatCupraNet and here it seems to be in 2011 the shims were being installed to the turbo. Unsure to whether an early Monte Carlo would need this doing. I'm not aware of any other issues with the later 1.2 tsi engines.
