Will service plan (fixed or variable) be marked in service book?

Featured Replies

Hi all

I am picking up my 64 plate octavia tomorrow, it has done just over 11k miles. As such if it is on the fixed service plan it will have an invalidated warranty however obviously if it is on the variable plan it will be ok. I have tried phoning skoda today to find out but I cannot get through. I'm just wondering if it will be marked in the service book and therefore if I can check myself tomorrow before committing.

Thanks in advance

You can check whether the car's on fixed or variable servicing as in the following post - see the service booklet:

"

May be a stupid question, but how do you know if you're on a Variable or Fixed servicing programme? I picked up the 3 years for £149.99, but don't remember reading or being told which it was.

With your vehicle you should have received a Service Schedule booklet. The inside cover lists all the codes for the vehicle. One states what the original service interval was/is, the Q code, Q1, Q2, Q3. Q4 and Q16. Traverse through the booklet to the Service Intervals pages and there it tells you all you need to know about what yours is on.

Have a look in the Infotainment unit under Car > Settings and see what the mileage to oil change and service is.

Excellent. Thanks for the replies guys

I may have misunderstood the OP Post, but, how can altering the service from Fixed to Variable or visa versa affect the warranty ?

They all leave the factory on variable so it is fairly irrelevant anyway.

Likely there is no Service book with your car if it was delivered after they stopped providing them and keeping the records online.

Hopefully there are receipts / Invoices in the Wallet with the Owners Manual etc.

Sticker indicating the Next Service / Oil, filter change.

The Service Indicator will give you an idea of when it was re-set if it was and what the car is showing until service time.

Where are you buying the car, private or from an Independent Dealer?

(Is it not a Skoda Approved Used Car?)

The Oil in the car if the Original is OK for Variable Servicing,

and the Skoda Manufacturers Warranty is to Service Schedule / Guidelines.

By that it is not overdue for a Service when it has Long Life Oil and can be on Variable Servicing,

even if the previous owner had it set to Fixed Servicing.

Hi, i had almost bought a different octavia the other week (pretty much same age same mileage), I phoned skoda upto check warranty was still intact. They informed me that they have 2 service plans. Fixed, where the car must be serviced every 10k miles /12 months, in this case the car warranty would be invalid. The other is variable servicing where the car must be serviced every 19k miles /24 months, in this case warranty would be fine.

I'm buying the car from Motorpoint so not skoda approved. The other one that I didn't end up buying (low coolant alarm was showing and car was in body shop every time I went down which combined to set alarm bells ringing for me so decided to go for another one) had not been serviced an I suspect that this is the same

So it isn't a UK spec car then?

The service records are now electronic, get them to pay for the 10k oil change service at a dealer if they can't prove it has been done.

As far as I'm aware it is UK spec, they told me that the only imports they sell are brand new. Do you know how I could confirm it's UK spec i.e the v5 document?

Thanks

The call to Skoda UK meant the Call handler mixed up what there is and what matters.

There are Service Plans, and someone that opts to pay for a Service Plan can have the car on Fixed Servicing.

10,000 miles / 372 days.

But the car is suitable for Variable Servicing, it leaves the Factory ready for Variable Servicing, and with Long Life Oil.

Buying a car new or used that was changed on the Service Indicator does not Void the Manufacturers Warranty by

not having a Fixed Service done at 10,000 miles / 372 Days, when the Service Code for that engine allows Variable Servicing.

ie, You are meeting the 'Manufacturers Service Schedule / Guidelines' as set out in the Skoda Warranty T&C's.

If it is UK spec you don't have a problem as they all leave the factory on variable, so don't need a service until 20k or 24 months.

What Skoda told you wasn't entirely true ..............

The owner can asked for it to be set to fixed intervals, or some unscrupulous dealers set them to fixed as a money generating excercise.

Your warranty will not be invalid, if you are concerned just book it in and get the fixed service done. If there isn't a service warning showing then t has either been serviced or is on variable.

http://skoda.co.uk/SiteCollectionDocuments/Brochures/Warranty-Booklet-single.pdf

See page 5, 'Servicing'.

& also see 'Exclusions' Page 6.

...........

Skoda Official Dealers selling a Skoda Approved Used car, will do the ''Workshop / Safety Checks'. HPI ect.

& not Service a vehicle in many cases if a Service is not due. That is how many roll.

Some do not even pick up on outstanding Service Campaign work and carry it out before allowing a new owner

to leave with a 'Skoda Approved Used Car.'

Thanks for all the replies!

I've been phoning round skoda dealerships of see if they can look up the service schedule of the car. All the servicing departments seem to be shut but I just spoke to a guy at an arnold clark skoda dealership and he was saying to me that most skodas are set to require a service at 10k miles and it's an option the buyer can request to change it to Variable. Sounds like this guy has it wrong aswell then.

Just to make sure I'm reading this all correctly: all skodas require a service at 24 months /19k miles but you can purchase a service plan on new skodas that get you a service every 12 months? But essentially this 12 month service is not required to maintain the warranty?

No you are not reading it right.   Forget 'all Skodas'.

This is about a Skoda Octavia 64 plate with 11,000 miles covered.

It left the Skoda Factory set for Variable Servicing.

You said the magic name there. (Sir) Arnold Clark.

Like many others in Car Dealerships they learn on the job, from someone that learnt on the Job.

They just carry on Chinese Whispers.

Sadly many work 6 Days a week at this, so you know how many a Employee can mislead customers.

................

If the car has had a Service Plan Purchased, see if it is one that can be done at 'Any Official Skoda Dealer',

then claim the Service at a Skoda Workshop.

Some were sold Service Plans that Dealer Groups were selling just to their Group,

sometimes that Group no Longer is Trading, and it Turns Out the Skoda UK Computer System never had

a Service Plan Added'.  ie Skoda UK are not the people that got money from the Plans Purchase.

Picked up the car today, got the warranty issue confirmed and also that it is UK spec. However.... After leaving he dealership I noticed that once you got the speed up the drivers door was creaking and also there was an unusual whirring sound when I was accelerating. I wasn't overly concerned by these but had to go back to the dealership as I had left some stuff behind so I mentioned these noises to the salesman and he arranged for a mechanic to come out on a test drive with me. The mechanic was revving the engine a fair bit harder than I do and the whirring noise got worse. Pretty much straight away he said the turbo must be faulty and would likely need replaced! Im absolutely gutted! I had literally just signed for it, in fairness to the dealership though they agreed to cancel the sale (although I'm awaiting confirmation the finance has been cancelled). Has anybody else came across this problem and is it common?
