Skoda 1.3 carb engine pick up issue

Hi all,

I was just hoping if anyone could point me in the right direction, I need a heater matrix for my 1997 skoda pick up 1.3 carb 136b engine, and having no luck finding one in the uk, tryed skoda and the usual parts dealers ( pages, Waterloo, euro parts)

But no luck, can anyone help?

The heater core is the same on all felicia/pickup models isn't is? 1.3 and 1.6 etc? I'm pretty certain even the diesel one has the same heater core. You should be able to just get one from a hatchback, it doesn't specifically come from a pickup.

Yes I seem to remember they have A bigger pipe on the inlet side if I recall, you can just stretch the hose to fit, but physically the core is the same size

Regardless of this, it is actually a fairly easy job to replace the heater core, just 2x 11mm nuts on the bulkhead inside the engine bay and the whole heater assembly slides forwards with the dash controls still attached, just 1 little 3 pin plug and the whole thing is self contained, it's well worth replacing the series resistor at the same time (especially on thee diesel models) it's really tricky to seperate the fan housing with it in situ because of this aweful little c clip things.

the other thing I would do first is run a bottle of k-seal through the cooling system, if it's only a minor leak this could cure it.

Any downside on using K-seal?

It's a bodge for sure, but as far as I can tell it only hardens at the place where it oxidises (the leak I guess), but it must reduce the efficiency of the cooling system as would be the case with any foreign object ingress, but I think it's effects will be marginal in all honesty. According to the advertising blurb that comes on the bottle it's a permanent repair but you never believe a word of anything like that in general.

I shoved a bottle in my a4 avant the other day because the egr cooler was leaking, trust me a real pain in the backside cylinder head off job on the v6 engines due to inaccessibility so I was keen to try it out first, now fixed, not leaking, nothing not even a drip.

It says it's safe to leave in the cooling system afterwards, or you can drain it if you wish.

I remember reading once that water pump seal may be affected; temp sensor and rad switch too. I agree it is a temporary fix, I don't believe any additives marketing bs too. Frankly, I would use it only to get home or to delay a proper repair if I have no means to do it / it's a pig of a job. Hopefully the metallic (?) residues will come off easy when a flush is necessary.

The stuff that is in the k seal bottle has a kind of metallic copper coloured textured particles in it. It's a very odd looking fluid. But what you are saying must hold true, it must put a very small coating on thermostats and sensors.
