Bonelorry's Winter Runabout....

Featured Replies

Firstly I would just like to point out that this car is in no way a replacement for the Golf Edition 30 LOL!

So I got the phonecall at lunchtime Last Tuesday off the guy that was interested in my Golf Edition 30 saying he wanted to come and buy the car that night, It suddenly dawned on my that I was working night shifts and my other half needed her car so I needed to get something quick!

I basically needed a car to get to work in/runabout in when I sold the Golf and did not really want to go spending too much with the Winter months fast approaching, I have in past years usually had something of no more than £1000 value, Small, Sporty & usually Japanese to run through Winter and "Touch Wood" I have never been let down and had a lot of fun driving these cars.

I have had a Civic VTI, Corolla SR VVTI, Corolla G6R, Primera GT x 2 Etc.

So a quick glance on ebay looking at what was available locally and I spotted something that ticked all the right boxes, Small, Sporty, Fun to drive, Reliable and cheap. I recognised the house/driveway that the car was on in the pictures as one of my friends so I gave him a quick ring and asked if it was his and it turns out it was.

My friend who I bought it off and have known for a good 20 years really looks after his car's. He only ever buys Japanese cars, Mitsubishi Evo 8MR, Integra DC5, Nissan 200sx etc. He usually has a Daily Driver also while whichever toy he owns at the time is garaged over winter, He has just purchased a Honda CRV for Winter hence why he was selling it.

So what have I bought....

2004 Suzuki Ignis Sport

1.5 VVT 16V, 110bhp, 945KG

67K miles

Factory fitted Recaro seats

Recent discs and pads all round

Also has a few sensible upgrades...

Full Stainless Steel Exhaust "Quiet"

Standard Enkei Wheels recently powdercoated Gloss Black

Full set of matching Hankook V12 tyres

Apex lowering springs -35mm

Custom mudflaps all round

Future plans...

Fit new NSF lower Suspension arm, Slight play in one of the bushes but this was factored into the purchase price

Will replace the Track Rod Ends at the same time

Re-fit the standard Springs as these Apex ones are a bit crashy with the standard shock absorbers

Purchase a pair of new front Winter Tyres

A few snaps from this morning, Gave the car a little clean/detail...

Looks good! Probably an underrated motor, although I have little knowledge of them! Video of the exhaust note please :)

I had little knowledge of them until a few days ago, Seems they have quite a following and there are a few owners forums. Not that many where built! The exhaust sounds no louder than standard, Very subtle.

Looks tidy mate

Will look even better when you've worked your magic on I'm sure

Hope it serves you well :)

Looks to be in pretty good condition

Always loved the recaros in these <3

So far so good with the little Rice Burner!

Did a few little jobs on the car last week....

Fitted a new NSF Lower Suspension arm (Ball joint was worn on the old arm)

Fitted 4 x Standard Springs, It was just too crashy for my liking with the Apex ones fitted. Much better now.

Fitted a pair of new Bosch wipers

Removed and binned the 5mm wheel spacers

Went through the whole car while it was on the ramp, Everything checked out OK. It is a solid little car.

Also did some calculations when I filled up at the petrol station, I did 250 miles to £30 worth of fuel which is roughly 6 Gallon/27 Litres.....Averaging 41MPG! Very impressed considering it has has quite a bit of right foot LOL.

Just need to get myself a pair of new winter tyres ordered for the front and that should be about it with the little Suzuki, Other than routine servicing it shouldn't want for anything.

So onto the second car/toy I have been talking about. Going to view one tomorrow   ;)

I will be starting a build thread for the weekend thrasher/toy very soon...

That looks great fun :)

I look forward to the new project thread for the new toy!

Theses are brilliant cars. Very fun to throw round corners.

19/11/15...

The little Suzuki is still going strong, Really enjoy jumping in it without giving it a second thought. I suppose its just its simplicity which makes it so much fun to drive, Back to basics N/A engined little hot hatch.

Still need to get a pair of Winter Tyres for the front end as the colder weather is fast approaching! That is next on the list.

I had been thinking about giving the car a Major Service but having spent so much time recently on the Astra I put off doing it, Although the Suzuki was not due a Service yet I like to give all my cars a Full Service just because I know its been done then.

The Spark Plugs on these are NGK Iridiums and should be changed every 4 years, Unfortunately they are also quite expensive and cost about £12-£15 per plug depending on where you get them from.

Anyway I spotted a set of new ones on ebay that where bought for a car but never used, I stuck a bid on them and won them for just £27! Since I had saved so much on the plugs I popped into GSF car parts as I know them quite well from when I was in the motor trade so I get a decent discount and bought the rest of the service kit and Engine Oil for the car. All together it cost me about £15 more than what it would have done just for the plugs, Happy days.

Got up early this morning and did the following...

Full Major Service

5W40 Fully Synthetic Oil

New Oil Filter

New Air Filter

New Cabin Filter

New NGK IFR6J11 Iriduim Spark Plugs x 4

MOT passed last Friday so now has 13 Months test, No problems just an Advisory for a small chip in the windscreen. Very pleased with the little Iggy.

Now on 69K miles and has been trouble free so far, Replaced the 2 x Front Tyres and in the end decided not to go for Winters. Opted for some Kumho's which for the money are fine.

Having sold my Second car/Weekend toy in December the Iggy is now my only car and to be fair its not a bad little car at all!

Popped down from Sheffield to Cannock yesterday and opted for the A & B roads, Covered about 150 miles in the car and had a bit of fun on the way!

Been a while since I posted any pics of the car so gave it a good clean this morning....

Well after nearly 2 months of searching for a second car as a weekend toy and not been able to make my mind up about what to get I have given up LOL.

Decided to go back to owning just one car, So believe it or not I have sold the Suzuki back to the chap I bought it off!

So that is the end of this project, Been a great little car to own and drive and if I had decided to buy something for the weekend then I would have kept it but I cannot justify keeping the Suzuki as well as the car I have just purchased today.

Pick up my new daily driver later this week, MK6 Golf R.

A new thread will be put up accordingly for the Golf.

Thanks Simon

Ah that's a shame, I did like that little suzuki!

That's the more curvy Shaped R isn't it? Not heard to much about them compared to the newer r.

Yes the Suzuki has done its job well!

The MK6 Golf R which I have bought was made 2010-2012, Yes not quite as angular looking as the newer MK7 Golf R.

I am not a big fan of the new MK7 Golf R, I am sure they are a capable car but I just cannot get on with the styling plus I couldn't justify spending £30k on a car.

I must have seen Four MK7 Golf R's just on my way up the M1 today, Not seen One MK6 other than the car I have bought. I bet 90% of people who drive the MK7 R also have them on lease deals and do not own them due to the cheap Monthly payments...The markets saturated with them.

If I cannot afford to buy a car I wont borrow the money, I like to own my cars.
