Anyone lost a split pin?

Featured Replies

Possibly a little shorter than original spec and it has been quite hot recently. Tyre shown in picture now goes with item. Offers?

That tyre looks economically repairable to me. How much tread depth left? 3mm+ by the looks of the picture?

Yeah, no more than a tenner to fix that. ;)

Tread was about 4.5mm but the sidewall was goosed. I stopped asap after the tpw light came on but the tyre was quite hot and the air stank when they took the tyre off. You could see the damage inside, but the wheel was ok.

I put a pair of Goodyear Efficient Grip on and I can tell they're quieter than the Continentals that came off. Nice even wear on them though, so relatively pleased despite having to shell out earlier than planned. Thank goodness for a proper spare tyre!

If you got a good spare tyre then you can buy another one from the same kind and the undamaged tyre from this axle can be used as spare in future. You don't have to waste other tyre and you have to buy only one tyre instead of two.

I doubt that a few years in tyre age can make much difference in performance and wear rate but decision is up to you - you better know in what condition is the spare tyre.

Shame. Was the sidewall damage a consequence of the puncture/low pressure running, or a pre-existing problem, as far as you can tell? Inner or outer sidewall?

I'm pretty sure it was down to post puncture running damage. The sidewalls on the other tyre on the axle was still perfect.

I know what you mean but the spare is a steel 17" and the original is an alloy 18". I like to keep tyre makes and tread depth the same on an axle.

My advice allows you to do that. I mean - it would allow if:

1) your spare is 18'';

2) it's brand new or only a bit used.

But if you spare is a different size one then my advice is useless for you.
