Indy or to the dealer?

Featured Replies

Hi guys..

Recently purchased my vehicle! Was pointed out to me whilst purchasing that the cambelt and waterpump had been changed. Something I neglected to pay attention to was the date!

Turns out it was done in June 2011. So it's overdue it's four yearly recommended change.

My nearest Skoda dealership is a good hours drive, so popped into my local VW dealership and was pleasantly surprised at the cheaper cost quoted.

2 Local Indies quotes: £365 & £390.

VW: £349.

Something both Indies made a point of stressing however was that the idlers and tensioners were changed with the cambelt; is this standard for VW to do also? I've specifically asked that to the Service centre twice and just get the generic sales pitch.

Are the Indies offering something the dealership isn't?

I'm not due a minor service for 6k miles. But was surprised at the £149 quote from VW; whereas the Indies wanted £79 respectively!

I wanted to keep the service history as full of dealership stamps as possible - but struggle to justify the extra money that the dealerships charge for the service
