Immobiliser Fault?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have had my Rapid 1.2 TSi 110 for a few weeks now and am generally very happy with it.  However, sometimes when I get in the car, put the key in and try to start the engine, it won't turn over.  The ignition lights all come on, but that's it.  If I get out, lock the car, wait for a few seconds, then unlock and try to start the car again, it works fine.

This has happened a few times now and I'm wondering if it's an immobiliser fault.  It could also be me doing something wrong, but I can't think what.  Has anyone else come across similar problems?  It seems to happen most often when the car hasn't been stationary for long (the return trip from a quick visit to the shop, for example), but I don't know if that is just coincidence.

Any ideas welcomed before I brave the murky world of the local Skoda dealership!

Thanks All

This might sound a bit dull, but mine does the same if I forget to press the clutch in.

Even with the immobiliser active, the starter will turn the engine and it'll run for a couple of seconds before stopping, also the immobiliser warning light will be active.  As above, it could be a faulty clutch pedal switch.

As above - characteristics are all wrong for an immobiliser fault (or indeed for the ECU not being correctly coded to the key). It would not hurt to replace the battery in your key, just in case its an immobiliser chip reading issue.

sounds like it.

my wife does it all the time and then moans !

Thanks all, it's definitely not me forgetting to press the clutch in - can't remember the last time I tried to start a car without doing that, but it certainly wasn't in the last 30 years...  I'll try the key battery first, then see how I get on.  I'll let everyone know if it turns out to be anything more serious or unexpected.

Thanks again
