Coolant warning light intermittent problem

Featured Replies

My coolant warning keeps coming on at certain times. I think I have found what may be causing it. It only seems to happen when parked on a hill.

This is annoying as I live in Cornwall so 50% of the time I'm on a hill.

Has anyone had any similar issues or have any ideas how I could maybe stop it?

Many thanks!!!

Does it make a difference whether you're parked with the front end of the car higher, or the rear?

Front end down the hill  causing more false alarms might make sense in terms of the orientation of the bottle and where the probes are within it, I think.

First of all, check you coolant level and your temp gauge. If everything is fine, you can move on.

In my case, the cause is .. or at least was .. a bad connection of the expansion tank sensor. I reseated it, cleaned a bit in there and it's fine so far. I've got it beeping monday morning, but it was fine after the engine has been restarted.

If the problem will persist, you might have to replace the tank.

It definitely seems worse when facing down hill front end first.
