Early Mazda MX 5

Featured Replies

They have been under Ford ownership for years but that doesnt gurantee safety. If the loose to much money Ford will just off them. But the MX-5 has kept them profitable so they are a good company to have under the blue oval.

Look at V.A.G and SEAT.

The new MX 5's headlights just don't float my boat to be honest. The last one looked better, hopefully the prices will drop quite a biut with the new models arrival :D I was looking to chop my Octy in for a 1.8S.

Don't forget the early MX5 weighed in a measly 950kg with 116bhp in standard form as 1.6L and 130 then 142 bhp as a later 1.8L but a bit heavier then. None of this safety heavy stuff to slow you down on the early ones though.

Great fun and yes quick.

there was one in Sheffield last night all noisy and caged up. My god they are slow, i mean really really slow. How can they be any fun ?

Just discovered this thread.

I have a Fabia vRS, a 1990 MX-5 and a Suzuki Bandit...

I was nearly excommunicated from the MX-5 list when I announced I'd bought a FWD Skoda...

The MX-5 has 116bhp - but is a lot lighter than a vRS - so there's not a lot of difference in performance terms, always accepting you do have to rather thrash the MX-5 to get it.

The steering's much better on the MX-5 and I do prefer RWD handling...

The Fabia's much more comfortable though.

Maybe it was running rough :D I know two people who have Mk1 MX5's, both supercharged and quick and immense fun (if a teeny weeny bit girly)

trust me there ain't nothing girly about a supercharged '5 they are stupidly quick and in such a small involving package brilliant fun...if not a bit scary!!

Hasn't Andy just been and bought an underpowered RWD 2 seater?

....what, as opposed to a tractor engined shopping trolley?????:P ;)

cant we just agree that all cars are good in their own right? depending what you want from them?

this thread is great... again i come out to defend Fabia Drivers from someone who gets off at slagging off Fabia VRS's for no reason and I get abused.

the point I made was that you can't comment on what you don't know , neither can you really put a point across from what others have said. I learn't this in previous threads I took part in....

When on this forum I only speak about the fabia from my many test drives in the fabia VRS and the goes I have had in my mates car. I think thats what you are getting at.

Hypocrits (spello?)

some people have far too much time on thier hands...... good thread keep it coming. it makes me laugh when people get thier hand bags out. any how im off....

Jump in, ,stir the S*** and dissapear when it starts to get a bit hot...LOL:rofl:

My 'tongue in cheek comments are exactly that, Fabia vRS is a fine package, I've driven one and really enjoyed it.....I don't get off on slagging anyone elses car off, in fact I am a regular on the SCN, UK-MKivs, Vortex, Vag20V....and MX5NUTZ, just because I like cars in general

Josh is unlikely to take any offence, need to defend, or need anyone to defend him/his car! ...............especially from a TAXI driver eh Chris!!!!!!!!!!!:);)

very mature.

Whats wrong with what I said in my last post? I am trying to be neutral in the thread. IMO i thinks it's a valid point that I have said.

PS can't wait to take delviery of my new car in a few weeks.

They're a great little car IMHO - the old 1600 isn't massively quick but that's not what they're about. They're about chilling out, wind in your hair (or scalp in my case) and not having to brake for anything due to the fantastic chassis - I've driven a few over the years (not the new 2.0 yet) and been impressed with them all.

Girls car though.

No, what I meant was Andy started this thread asking why someone would buy an MX-5, stating they're slow... and now he's bought a smart which is also slow, but also rwd and reasonable fun.

lol - that's very true! My, how things change :D

see my post above. I think we may have to agree on this!
