Fabia VRS or Astra Sri ?

Featured Replies

Once I get my superb back I will be changing it, I just don't get on with cars that have spent time in the dealers...the courtesy car I have is a monstrous 1.2sport fabia LOL.

It's actually a nice car to drive so my thoughts have turned to a smaller replacement car....

Has to be turbodiesel and looking around 2 choices jump up, astra sri cdti 150hp or maybe the fabia vrs ? Both can be easily chipped to 180ish hp so anyone got any comments on either or other suggestions ? ta :)

Seat leon TDi

BMW 120D

VW Golf 2.0TDi

Ford Focus TDCi

Depends on what you want and how much you want to spend

got around

I'd go for the golf or the astra.

Vauxhall customer service is somewhat variable though, I had 2 corsa's that were treated well by dealers in and around Buckinghamshire. I then bought an Astra which was treated very badly by Oxfordshire's Vauxhall dealers.

EDIT: Have you considered a Passat ?

Vauxhall Astra:

Cost New (value from Parker Guide) -

Vauxhall dealers can be pretty feeble, but I've just got back from a little drive in a workmate's car -he's got an Astra SRi coupe, with the 150bhp CDTi engine.

Quite nippy, lots of tourque, and it handles rather tidily.

And these folks, who I've heard very good things about, can get you 185bhp!

Phil

I'd go for the Ashtray or the Leon with a sensible power diesel engine.

Astra - no question about it.

I test drove an Astra SRi Sporthatch before I replaced the Octy, it was only the 1.8i so it was pretty gutless, but I was very impressed with the ride and handling - very crisp and precise without being uncomfortable. Nice looking car too.

The Fabia will no doubt be the cheaper "performance" option, but then it is (in theory) a class size down.

Astra interior should be streets ahead of the Leon and the Fabia.

It's boot will also be about 3 times that size of a Fabia.

Your comparing two different class sizes, the Astra is in the Octavia group of car sizes ( Leon, Golf etc)

I've driven the Astra and it's a very nice car more toys and better handling than a standard Fabia. But for the extra 4 or 5K you could have a nearly new Octavia Mk 2.

In 3dr guise the Astra is not that big.

I had the previous shape SRi and it was actually a very good car. Let down purely by the dealers. Certainally handled better than the non-VRS Octavia, had more comfortable seats, de-misted the windows properly and diddnt annoying electric windows.

I am suprised. You drive a Superb, you are looking to sell for a Astra or a Fabia diesel. Not very inspiring - how do you say scrabble drive ?

worst of all they are scrabble drive, there are no front wheel drive cars that can match a rear wheel drive car for powersliding fun :)

How come you don't get an M3 CSL, or a Lotus Exige, or a Westfield ?

Lotus Carlton :D

Really surprised here. This IS a SKODA site - yet so many people are saying buy the Vauxhall, buy the Ford.

The Fabia VRS, when chipped is a really special little car. Even unchipped it is not bad but it isn't in the same price bracket as the Astra - like comparing a Fiesta with a Focus (A diesel Fiesta LX with a Focus 1.8 Ghia).

I think this thread says it all

I would but this car is for work use and 30k miles a year so that means turbo diesel. Having recently sold my toy car the S2000 I may well be looking for advice on a replacement for that, my bro has just bought a Westfield so I look forward to my go in that, only prob with that is fitting it in the garage with the 9 motorbikes....

Thanks for all the comments so far......

I think most people here bought their cars on merit, rather than on badge...therefore, if there are cars out there which have more merit than a Skoda, I think few people would recommend the Skoda.

Otherwise you're just buying the badge, and isn't that what we all laugh at people for doing? :)

Rob.

Lotus Carlton :D

Now thats a sensible replacement for a Superb, will definately have the FUN Factor

I don't understand why anyone would choose any other diesel performance car over the fabia vrs.

For the cost of the Astra SRI CDTI, New Golf 2.0 TDI etc.

You could boost the performance to 210BHP for

A car that has +60BHP than the Astra SRI CDTI for about the same cost.

It stands to reason that the Fabia VRS is a better buy.:P :) :)

Only if you want to mod it. A lot of people like to buy a good car "out of the box" ;) Also remember that any mods you do to it will narrow the audience of people interested in buying it come selling time.... :D

I've heard very good things about the new Astra and you should get a good discount on the screen price, but I guess you really need to test drive both of them for a reasonable amount of time to see which one you prefer. In terms of build quality, reliability, etc I think they're very similar :D

Chris

The Fabia and the Astra are in two different classes.

Just a note that the astra is available virtually new at the car supermarkets for

I think it is crazy that anyone could rate the astra cdti sri 150 over the fabia vrs.

For about the same cost as the standard astra cdti sri 150BHP

You can upgrade the power of the fabia VRS to 210BHP (
