225/50/17 on vRS?

Featured Replies

I'm looking to buy a set of second hand winter wheels for my vRS and there seems to be a lot more to choose from if I'd go for 225/50/17, instead of 225/45/17 or 205/50/17. Has anybody here runt with that setup? If so, any issues apart from the speedometer being slightly off?

Should be fine....just be sure whatever wheels you buy are the right offset and clear the front brakes as the discs and callipers are pretty vast on the vRS....17" wheels being the smallest typically that'll fit.

The tyre profile will be fine...will likely just trade a small amount of handling prowess for improved ride comfort care of the taller sidewalls. OEM fitment for a vRS running 17's (as they do in other EU markets) is a 225/45 tyre.....a 50 profile will make v little difference.

There are a few on ebay at the moment. The rolling radius will be slightly more but not enough to worry about.

Thanks for the replies. I found a set of 205/50/17 on VW OEM wheels called Sima. Does anyone know if these would clear the calipers? They are 6x17" and have ET45.

I'm answering my own question regarding the VW Sima wheel.

Found a set of Sima 6.5x17 ET39 with good winter tires on them for cheap, so I took the risk and bought them.

Fits nicely even with weights right behind the spokes.

Center badges are larger than those on the Gemini's, so I'll have to settle for the VW ones until I can get a hold on a Skoda / VRS set.

Not the nicest rim I know, but at least they will be easier than the Gemini's to clean :)
