Superb 1.6 tdi Se Hb DSG

Featured Replies

Hi ,

New to this forum ,just ordered a new skoda from my local dealer, but have not seen much reveiws for the 1.6 tdi as most people seem to be ordering the 2.0 . I currently own a 2.0 diese insignia and before that a 2.0 skoda octavia.Recently lost my left leg and now registered disabled so I need a car which his suitable for my needs.47 years old now so not interested in breaking the speed limits but wondering that I have made the right decision in getting the 1.6 compared tot 2.0 dsg.Drove the dealers test car 190bhp which was very powerfull,Last time I drove an automatic was thirty years ago when I used to (borrow) my brothers 2.6 Rover and watch the fuel gauge go down when you floored along the standing stone road.

I was in a similar situation having had four VW group 2.0 TDI's previously and now have a Superb 2 1.6 TDI. Like you I no longer feel the need for speed and find the 1.6 is fine, perfectly adequate for everyday driving. The newer mk3 is also up on power compared to mine, 120ps against mine at 105ps, so will be better still, especially with the DSG. My wife had the 105ps with DSG in a 2014 Octavia and it drove lovely with fantastic economy.

Have no worries and enjoy the car when it arrives.

Thanks for your comments and links,Dealer has now informed me of change of alloys and delivery date of end of January.I have picked Quartz Grey for the colour and added the rear wiper .

Superb170 has driven one and given a good write up here http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/368714-first-drive-in-120bhp-superb-iii-impressions/

Bearing in mind he's used to 170bhp he seems quite impressed with the 1.6TDI.

Yes I was impressed actually with the 1.6 and I've since driven another one too. It's not going to set the world on fire but you won't be left stuck for power either or feel like the car isn't safe which is the main thing. I know the torque is the same at 250nm compared to the old 105bhp but having had also driven some 105bhp Superbs for extended periods (garage loan cars for up to a week at a time) I really can feel the difference between the old and new engines. Power is all relative though, I came from a 1.9 TDI Octavia (105bhp) a few years back and if I hadn't gone straight for a 170 Superb and settled for less power I'd never have known the difference.

It's all about knowing the car's limitations and adjusting your driving accordingly. I drove 1.4 petrol Octavias (75bhp!!!) for years and they were perfectly adequate at the time as I'd never driven powerful diesels. Sometimes I kind of regret not having saved the money and just gone for a lower powered engine in the Superb.
