Inspection Notification

Featured Replies

I have a Superb 140 4x4 estate, manual on a 63 plate. The vehicle was registered on 3/12/13. It is on variable servicing, Q16, and had an oil change service carried out 28/1/15 at 12,469 miles.

The mileage now stands at 18,370, so its covered just less than 6,000 miles since its last service.

I have now got an `Inspection in 500 miles 30 days` message. The maxidot tells me that an oil change is due in 12,900 miles/481 days, so presumably its not an oil change. Any ideas what the `inspection` covers? I`ve had a look in the handbook and service schedule document, and I`m still in the dark. Is there any way to re-set the Inspection message?

Hold the 0.0 button and turn on the ignition, you'll have a notification to confirm reset yes or no

Both the 'Oil Service' and 'Inspection' involves an oil change.

The 'Oil Service' is just that - a basic service.

An 'Inspection is an 'Oil Service' plus other parts that need changing (age and mileage dependant), such as fuel, pollen and air filters.

See here, a minor  service is basically an 'Oil Service', a major is closer to an 'Inspection'...

You do not appear to be on variable either.

It looks to have left the factory on variable (first service done at the approx. 2 year mark, despite low mileage), however who ever did that service appears to have changed it to fixed intervals. Saying that though even with 500 miles or 30 days to go you are still short of the 12 months or 10,000 mile interval of a fixed service.

It is as clear as mud, silver1011. The first service was done at 13 months, 9 months ago, at 12,469 miles. I looked at the VAG site, and it mentions that the first Inspection service is due after 3 years or 37,500 miles. My Superb is 14 months and 19,100 miles shy of their recommendations for an Inspection service, and I think it is on variable servicing.

peterposh, you are not entirely correct......your instructions did not alter the Inspection Service, it changed the Oil service from 12,900 miles/481 days to 9,400 miles/372 days. The Inspection service notification is still there.

I presume from its age that it is uder warranty therefore take to the dealers.

Inspection probably means the ecu is detecting a fault , unless you have an obd reader you'll have to book it back in

An 'Inspection' isn't a fault, it is a service, the question is if it involves an oil and filter change.

Seemingly not...

On fixed service intervals the 'Oil Change' and 'Inspection' are carried out together at the same time. On variable they run in order which also suggests an 'Inspection' service is just that, an inspection, no parts changed?

I think it's just another way for dealerships to get more money out of you. A completely unnecessary item in my opinion.

Hello All,

My wife's 64 plate 3T 140 Diesel showed the Inspection Now message and I'm confident that there isn't a fault as it gave 20 days notice.

Resetting is not the same as the oil change reset.

1. turn the key to the Accessory position (so the windows work but there are no warning lights showing)

2. push the hazard warning lights switch.

3. push and 0.0 reset button (with your left hand to leave your right hand free)

4. turn ignition on

5. say 'yes' to the subsequent message about resetting the inspection by pushing the right hand thumb wheel to the steering wheel.

But remember. Do check over the car - don't just get rid of the message!
