Renault Laguna

Thinking about selling my Fabia vRS as I now require a bigger car and something more comfortable with a less harsh ride so looking into a Laguna. I am looking at spending about

The new shape Laguna was at one point statistically guaranteed to suffer from a mechanical failure.

Don't buy one!

Cheers Loz, Yes family doing OK and the twins ?

Was looking at a "Mundoe" but not to sure how comfortable they are, might have to visit Mr Ford Dealer and take one out.

C5

406

Mundane-o

How about a Primera?

Was looking at a "Mundoe" but not to sure how comfortable they are, .

The Mundaneo was not the reps choice for 10 years for nothing. It only changed because of the obsession with the BMW 318 (debadged so no one knew that it was poverty spec apart from the pea shooter exhaust)

Dads had no machanical faults with his. Only build quality faults. Door seals hanging off, seat belts getting stuck. Hes got a 1.8 petrol gets around 26-28mpg  Other than that he's had no problems. But like Jon says I'd go else were. 406, Primera, ford  , Volvo?

Mondeo is not bad to drive like Roo says reps choice. Comfy. TDCI 130bhp is a bit all or nothing. First 3 gears are very short.

They'll match the driver then ;)

not thought about an Octy TDI then?? sure you could pick a low miler up for about your budget...

I'd avoid the 406 from a reliability POV too - Mundaneo and Primera both have good records there though - not sure how much enjoymnet you'd get from the Primera on the road though :(

My 406 was OK up till I got rid of it at 86k miles.

I'd avoid Beemers and SAABs - if they go wrong it is very pricey.

As you know, Ivan, I was in a similar quandry a few months back :D I took out a 2 year old top spec Laguna 1.9 DCI (Privilege?) and it was a great car, although the suspension was very wallowy and the engine a bit underpowered. Oh, and it squeaked and rattled like it was 100 years old ;) The main thing that put me off was reading owner's reviews on the web which suggested I was guaranteed to have lots of annoying problems with it and very few people said they'd buy again!

I also looked at the new shape Primera (2.2-130bhp) ... less said about that the better ;)

And then (in desperation!) I took a test drive in a Mondeo and was smitten. Car is both a driver's car (excellent in corners despite not being a sport model) as well as being a very comfy luxo-barge style car for the passengers. I got a 2002 plate Ghia X (toppish spec) 130bhp TDCI with 30k miles on for a shade over

Well, if you're going that route......

how about these?

Oh and I'll take the Aero at the top please :D

Nigel, that a ws postcode you used? You round here as well?

How about a diesel from these?
