doesnt that imply you can go as quick as you like??

ok, "racing" on them is just silly and you shouldnt "race" on any public road... :o

Well if we do it - Aunty Bertha Rapid now seems a good idea

So, they booked people already for bering cannonballers, and are looking out for more?

Just how many cannonball events are there in a month??

No I believe the actual wording was something like Montana in the USA had when they chopped limits in that your only allowed to go at speed that is appropriate and safe. There is a recommened limit of 140kph and all German manufactures limit cars to 155mph, as a curtousy

On the derestricted areas of the Autobahn you can go as fast as you like BUT you must not Race, we had this confirmed last year by a friendly German policeman who stopped us for "a chat" A lot of the Autobahn is restricted so if you go be careful. They also use the bridges a lot to trap you so be careful of Bridges with on & off ramps, they dont sit in the middle of the bridge, normally hide at the edge behind a bush, they also prefer to bag Porkers & ferraris rather than Skodas so dont drive a flash car. Apart from that fill yer boots, I know quite afew people who have run at 200+ & been OK

Why don't they use a helicopter? (not that I am encouraging the police)

Not true. The mainstream ones do, the sportscar manufacturers don't, eg Porsche and RUF. The tuners (eg Brabus) don't either. AMG over a derestriction service for the AMG Mercs. BMW did too for the CSL, provided you had a valid race licence.

It's rather like the Japanese manufacturers with their gentlemen's agreement on a 286 bhp limit. Usually stated power / top speed is no strictly accurate eg Sylines with above 340bhp as standard or Audi RS6+ top speed 155, limiter cuts in at over 160.

Oh and on a derestricted autobahn, if they stop you for excessive speed it won't be a speeding conviction normally, it will be for dangerous or reckless in that you were using speed in an inappropriate / dangerous way
