My Rapid Sport project - MY15 in white

Featured Replies

Hi all

I suppose after a few posts and me threatening to mod the rapid, I best get on with it!

I did put Hekos on it since around January this year but ditched them last night. The wind noise is horrendous and they were ill fitting.

Also last night, took the front skoda emblem off - well! I didn't assume it was in 3 parts! Toying with idea of painting black or could just get black Monte Carlo version front and rear?

Also took the top off air box and removed the filter - just had the intake pipe left dangling in to the bottom half. Went for a very short drive. What a lovely turbo sook, flutter and chatter!!! All back together just now but looking either for universal cone or KnN cone (not panel filter) for within the box. Not sure how much of that awesome noise will remain but worth a shot :-)

Also debadged the rear silver badges 'Skoda' and 'Rapid'. However, ran out of time so will sticky stuff remover the glue / foam tonight!

I've a shopping list or further items and mods. Most of which I can do but some will need a specialist.

Happy days. I'm excited.

Dave

  • No rubbing now that I'm on the 215/40 tyres. Looking brilliant too. Tomorrow I shall be washing the car fully so will take pics then.

Ray's with very good tyres will be up for sale soon and close to securing new wheels.

Looking at the new style Rapid (ala Octy 3) gear shifter, gaitor etc from Superskoda - very reasonably priced.

Current one looks a bugger to get off though - certainly without damaging the surround remaining.  I'll need to have a closer inspection!

download the workshop manual from erwin.  it was only 5 euro for access the last time I looked.

Thanks CS.

Who / what is Erwin though? lol

Cant tell from your post if you actually need this but...

erwin is VAGs electronic online maintenance library.

Google "erwin skoda",

Done - thanks for your help with this.  Most specifically I was looking for the way to remove and re-fit the front grille but seems they're suggesting taking the front bumper off!  Gulp.  I'll make contact with Ken Reid as I think he's done his on his Spaceback.

Thanks again.

Much better rear :)

Always wondered what was underneath the main badges as I was going to do mine when I had it.

Destroyed the plastic edge of the fuel filler ice scraper taking them off!! Got another though:-)

I was going to Plastidip the lot including the grille surround but got rid of it instead:)

Will use it on the Swift instead and a partial debadge.

Going to see a great wrapper today who hopefully will do grille, roof, talk about my idea for graphics and lamin-X esque my front fogs to Renault 80's yellow :-)

'Performance' air cone came today. Got a universal one to begin with and will try. However, wasn't dear and will go down official route if need be.

Did the same mod on my moped 37 years ago.

Intake roar doesn't appeal so much now.

It's not so much intake roar as chatter and sook - still good fun.  I should also know better but still like it.

The filter looks as big as the engine

Hpw did you go about removing the Skoda emblems? I've been toying with the idea of doing this before but had been told incorrectly that the indentations that are used for lining up the badge went right through the bodywork and the badge attached on the inside.

De-badging

If they are stuck on, heat them up with a hairdryer or (as I do) hot (not boiling) water

Then a length of tooth floss (or fishing twine) down the back and it's off.

A quick clean with glue remover and Robert is your parent's brother.

Sorry, I meant the round Skoda emblems front and rear. One of the first things I did was remove the badges either side of the tailgate and the dealer sticker from the rear window.

Just thinking that it's going to be more difficult due to being recessed.

I used boiling water dribbled over them and then get a plastic lever (or flat head screw driver wrapped in a rag) to get behind the edge. Once behind, try and wriggle carefully into the centre as there is no glue there. If you manage this, you'll be able to lever further, more easily. I was better at it second time round - first time, I broke it in to tiny pieces, eventually getting it off.

Sticky stuff remover afterwards and a rag.

as camelspyder said: hair dryer and tooth floss! comes off a treat; even the big recessed ones
