ABS and TCS lights constantly on

Featured Replies

Hi all, I recently bought a 2003 (53 reg) Skoda Fabia 1.9 TDI Elegance and absolutely love it. I went on a 4,500 mile trip around Britain just days after I bought it and it's been a great companion so far.

A few weeks ago, I had to break on gravel on a forest road (I was doing less than 5 mph) when (I think) a stone got trapped on the brake disk or pad. I heard a scratching noise and couldn't really push the brake pedal down. The scratching sound disappeared, the brakes work fine but both the ABS and TCS light came on and won't go away.

Has anyone had similar experiences and knows how to fix this?

Thanks a lot!

Natasha

It will need to be scanned with VCDS to read any fault codes.

It could be the stone ripped into the ABS sensor causing damage..............or it could just be the ABS computer says no to the situation & just needs the fault codes clearing.......................

Had it happen myself.............

I'm almost certain that you're correct about getting a stone between the dust shield and the disc.

You do need a VCDS scan of the brake system to confirm the fault, but I'd suspect a damaged ABS rotor or sensor or wire, too.

You may also have a scored disc, which means you need a new pair of discs and new pads for that axle I'm afraid. Also, there's no way of checking this except a physical inspection.
