Upgrading Bulbs?

Featured Replies

Pick up my new octavia tomorrow morning, One thing i always do is change the bulbs.

Didnt get a chance to take the xenon upgrade as I picked a car from new stock in sheerness. So my question is has anyone fitted any nice BRIGHT white bulbs that give a substantial improvement over the yellowy bulbs supplied.

PIAA Xtreme White Plus are pretty much the best halogen upgrade bulbs you can buy. You'll pay about £60 ish for a pair, but the quality is far ahead of some of the other upgrade bulbs available, and they last!

Used Osram Nightbreaker unlimited which were good, but didn't even last 6 months!

Osram H7 Nightbreakers (dipped beam) and H15 Cool Blue Intense (DRLs and high beam) are good for me.

+1 exactly what I have big improvement over the standard setup

I see you're also a fellow Geordie! Anywhere in the northeast to pick up these?

How did you find the original xenons on the vrs?

The Xenons on my mk2 FL were really poor I thought, really short reach beam! Obviously better than halogens, but world's apart from the OEM Xenons on my S2000, which were amazing!

Not a fellow Geordie any more...now a soft southerner (living in London!) Try Revolution in Gateshead, if they haven't got them in stock they can order them as they are an official PIAA dealer. I got my first set from Demontweeks though

OEM Xenons on my S2000, which were amazing!

Have heard on more than one occasion that these are the best of most OEM cars. How about the Mk3 vrs though?

I think I put that in another post too!

The MK3 ones aren't the best either, I think they're dull compared to some, and some of the latest LED's, but again substantially better than halogens and much better than the MK2!

Martin, my Scout has Halogen lamps, the output is ****e.

I have fitted Phillips X-treme vision +130, they give off a much whiter light, but they are not a patch on HIDs.

I have been playing about with some HID kits I have in garage, light output is great but I'm having trouble with the Canbus system.

The first ballast I used was a non Canbus one, great when first switched on, the bulb warning light came on, light was flickering in use.

Changed to a Canbus ballast, light worked fine without the engine running, but once engine started, light went out straightaway!!

So the Canbus system does not like aftermarket HID kits!

I'm going to try HID direct and see if they can provide a kit that will work on the Octavia

How did you find the original xenons on the vrs?

The Octavia Xenons have ok dipped beams, but I find the high beam quite poor.

My old Mondeo had better high beams (halogen), but worse dipped beams (Xenon).
