RAC (Roger Albert Clark) Rally Report.

Featured Replies

The Roger Albert Clark RAC Rally ended in a near traditional Ford Escort and Mark Higgins domination. The Ford Escort was always the car to beat on the RAC in the 1970s. No less then 8 times in a row the Ford Escort won this event between 1972 and 1979. Add 2nd places in 1980 & 1981. The RAC 2005 route was also back to tradition, while incredibly Ford Escorts filled the entire top10 overall results! The best non-Escort being Chris Worrall's Talbot Sunbeam TI in 12th position. The one bit that was maybe not so traditional is that multiple BRChamp Mark Higgins dominated the last 2 days of the 2005 event. We expected a battle between Higgins and RAC legends Jimmy McRae and Stig Blomqvist. In the early part of the rally we also noted stage wins for David Stokes and Ray Bellm. But as used to be traditional for the RAC, the Kielder Forest complex was to spill drama and change everything.

After leg1 on Sunday with park stages as well as first forest runs, leg2 belonged to classic South Scottish stages. Twiglees, Castle O

STIG !!!!!!!!! My God, he seemed about 50 when i was watching in the forests 35 years ago !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Top geezer, top driver :)

I only got to see Perez the once as he retired, but WOW! That car is awesome, i hope it will be back for next years event.

The pace of this years event was faster too as the overall time set by Higgins, Blomqvist and Easson was faster than that set by Bannister is his 'Modern' MkII. Whereas last year he was quicker than everyone over the whole event.
