Spare Wheel Jack & Jacking Points

Featured Replies

Hi All,

So I have been researching trolley jacks so I can do my own changeover of wheels for summer / winter. When looking through posts for other Skoda models there is a general design of the supplied jack that uses a deep slot which locates in a seam under the car but the lifting pressure is applied behind the seam (not on it). This meant trolley jacks had to be modified with something like a hockey puck with a groove cut into it to avoid damaging the car.

However, in the accessories thread in this post the photo of the supplied spare wheel Jack shows a shallow groove which looks like the lifting point with be on the seam itself. Also BillyJim has kindly advised on what the jacking points look like and says there is a sturdy piece of metal welded to the sill seam, about 3" long. He has no spare wheel though so can't confirm how the Skoda jack looks when placed at the jacking point.

The jack I am considering is this one:

If what I've understood is correct I shouldn't need a hockey puck modification to the jack for a Superb 3, unlike for most other Skoda models.

Can anyone that has a Superb 3 and spare wheel jack take some photos of the jack on the jacking point so I can see what's in contact with the sill seam and how it lifts the car?

Cheers.

Can't help with photos sorry as I don't have a SIII, but would a regular trolly jack with a thick rag over the cup not do the job? Local tyre fitter near me does this when jacking up my SII and it hasn't caused any damage.

There is a section on here where you can either download or look at the manual for the vehicle, I have copied the picture below from it: -

I did check the manual but it's not that clear so I'd like to see a real picture of the jack on the point :)

Jaytip - posts like these is why I'm asking:

The Jack I am looking for which I posted a link in my original post comes with some sort of rubber contact pad to prevent chassis damage so I am hoping I don't need any other modification.

Got ya some pics will upload shortly

There ya Go L4wrence

also as i was looking underneath i can say there is NO Where else i would use a jack of any kind! - lots of covers on the underside that flex when touched so unsure what surface is like underneath(plus what may be hidden under there)  to say whether it would support car weight on a jack

Many thanks Steve, your photos are greatly appreciated.

So I think it looks like the trolley jack I am ordering can be used unmodified. I also had a feeling these are the only jack points. I'm relieved to see the SKoda jack lifting directly on the reinforced seal so a trolley jack in the same place should be fine without some sort of crazy slotted object mod. Pleased :)

My trolley jack has a top plate like a hot cross bun...and thus takes the weight either side of the seam, not on it...was the same on my Superb II. (And if you do the winter tyre swap, I recommend a Clarke electric wrench which halves the time taken...)
