Drop Links

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I changed my drop links today and I was very pleased with myself as I'm not massively good at that sort of stuff. It all went well, until I went for a drive tonight and the clunking was quite bad - I don't think I've tightened them enough.

I had a quick read of the Haynes manual and that says to finish tightening them when the car is on the ground. Is that right? And if so do I do that with the car on full lock each side?

I won't be able to do it tonight or in the morning until I finish work. So will I be ok to drive my 25 mile commute and sort it after?

Thanks,

Ben.

What choice is there?

Well I probably could do it but I can't really be bothered if it's not going to ruin the brand new link.

Just the brand new threads on the brand new links...

That's what I thought after searching for a while.

Can you tighten them up just going lock to lock or does it need to be up in the air?

You don't have to tighten them with the car on the ground. It makes no difference because they are a ball joint.

Thanks. Can it be done on the ground though? Might be able to get it done before work that way...

Sure, if you can tighten them enough :)

Brilliant cheers. I'll have a extra weetabix in the morning and give it a go!

^ Haha

I've replaced mine a couple of months ago with Lemforder parts. They have been fitted with the car lifted and after this we checked the wheel alignment just to be sure. It's a pretty quick job.

Got this done tonight as I could only do the top bolts with the car on the floor.

They were pretty tight and it was mostly the bottom ones that needed tightening more.

No more knocks! Thanks for the advice.
