Clutch/Gearbox Problems Mk2 Octv vRS

Featured Replies

Having now been fobbed off twice by the mechanic I use, I'm referring to knowledge and experience via this site for a way forwards

Car Profile

Octavia MK2 vRS 2.0TDI (PD Engine)
Year: 2007 (07 plate)

6-speed manual
Mileage: 130K

15,000'ish miles ago, decided to get the transmission looked at as the car was juddering sometimes, and abit slippy if you put your foot down.
(At this time however, gear change was fluid and precise)

Work Performed

LuK DMF replacement

LuK full Clutch kit replacement (3 piece:- plate, cover and slave)

Gearbox "shivved" (There was some small play in the shaft, so a backfill ring was fitted in the box - from what I saw)

I 'know' how my car drove and felt before this work was done, so am fully confident in outlining the following 'new' symptoms that have developed since.

Symptoms

  • When cold, the car is now 'notchy' in 1st, 2nd & Reverse, and requires persuasion to get into gear.
Once the car is running at optimal temp however, these symptoms improve dramatically.

  • 15,000 miles in, and now there's aggressive judder when moving off in 1st when the car is cold.
Again, once running at optimal temp, this symptom improves dramatically.  Gears are still as per above.

I have approached my mechanic from day one to suggest that something isn't right with gear shift and each time, fed excuses to suggest that;

  • All VAG type boxes go notchy after a while
  • It's normal, I just didn't notice it before
  • Could be the headers in the box, but that's nothing to do with the work performed previously?!
  • There's nothing wrong with it, just drive it as per normal

The juddering DMF is now my last straw... I know something isn't right with this installation.

Looking for any help/advice on the matter.  Even if it means moving onto another mechanic for another replacement clutch system.  I don't care, I just want it fixed!

Thanks in advance,

James
