  1. Ads230 is right, I'm on my fourth Octavia and they all do it, from the MK2 onwards. 1st to 2nd when its cold is unpleasant but improves as the gearbox warms. I found a little maneuver that helps, but will be overkill for some. Rather than pulling strait down from 1st to 2nd when cold, I come out of first with the gearstick in neutral, then find 2nd. It removes some of the noticable crunch and might be worth a try

Just a courtesy follow up on this, the symptom is now completely resolved with the help of Mitchel Skoda, Cheshire Oaks 👍 They completely dismantled the ignition column and investigated the area immediately behind the slip ring unit to find that an adjustable tension bar was pushing too hard against the rear of the slip ring unit, applying pressure to the bearing inside, hence the noise. They simply loosened the screw, moved the bar back by 0.5mm, tightened, and all was resolved. I don't know what function the adjustable bar has, but I'm pleased it's resolved. I tried to find a technical diagram to show any nerds on here, but was unable to find one, sorry. Now onto the next little blip.... replacing the drivers window multi-switch unit (due to intermittent issues with the switches not responding).
  3. Has anybody else encountered this? I purchased my 2015 vRS estate in April and it came with a very clicky steering wheel. By this, I mean that when you turned the steering wheel more than 90 degrees in either direction there was noticeable "clicking" from immediately behind the wheel, as if some trim was catching. At this time, there was no airbag light and my multi-functional steering wheel worked perfectly. Attempt 1 Took the car to Mitchell Skoda and showed one of the lads. He said straight away, "that's your slip ring, it'll need replacing". A new slip ring / clock spring unit was ordered at £285 + £220 labour and fitted to the car. Day 1 - completely silent smooth steering, no clicks or noise. Day 5 - faint clicking starting to return (no airbag light, fully functioning steering wheel) Day 14 - loud clicking completely returned as before (again, no lights or lack of functionality) Attempt 2 Skoda took the car back and said it's the same unit again, and they'll need to replace on warranty. So they did this FOC on 30th July. Day 1 - completely silent smooth steering, no clicks or noise. Day 2 - faint clicking starting to return (no airbag light, fully functioning steering wheel) I've called Skoda today to explain that it's returning. They didn't really know how to explain this and are asking for the car back to perform a deeper investigation next week. Has anybody else experienced this type of issue with the "clock spring / slip ring" in their car, or experience clicking from immediately behind the steering wheel despite everything working as expected? The noise distracts and annoys me given that my previous 2013 mk3 had smooth, silent steering.
  4. It's well known and is often referred to as 'injector drift' where the engine over cranks before firing up. My 2013 vRS did it regularly even with the VW bulletin fix applied. My 2015 vRS does it, say, 1 in 20 starts. I spent hundreds of hours researching it and it's really common, and not believed to cause damage. You've no danger of starting the engine prematurely as it's a push button start which is designed to crank "once ready" (unlike a manual key start where you can override the start procedure).

  9. Wheel balancing from the sounds of it regards the vibration and twitchy feel. Get each corner done at a tyre place (pence to sort) and I'm sure it'll become more stable. Perhaps invest in all-round tracking just to be sure. ATS will likely do you a deal if you buy both (~£50 all in) Sound wise, I get quite loud tyre/road noise on my Continental's which at 70mph can give off a boom noise in the cabin, which I guess can be overcome by quieter tyres, or deadening mats as shown above. No vibration though, and I have a MK3 vRS.

I experienced this myself on an earlier 184 vRS diesel and was unable to overcome the symptoms after changing the clutch, flywheel, gearbox oil and linkage joints (it was a 2013 with some mileage, and not new like yours). I hit this forum where I saw an abundance of comments relating to a notchy 1st to 2nd experience from cold which appears to exist across the fleet. I hope yours can be improved. I loved my vRS but sold it for a DSG in the end.
  11. I bought an earlier 2015 MK3 last weekend in this colour and I love it. When cleaned and detailed, the paint is like no other in my opinion.
  12. Hi Stoofa, It's a Skoda system, with a slightly larger display, but definitely no SatNav. Where I once had the SatNav + Traffic button's, I now only have SETUP + SOUND. I utilise a TomTom XL system anyway, which I prefer so it's all good. The clock screensaver is new too, I didn't have this feature on my earlier MK3.
  13. ok... so, having been the proud owner of a 2013 MK3 vRS TDI for 2.5 years, I decided this week to swap it out for a same, but different car. I said goodbye to my white vRS for the following reasons; It was white Bodywork was in need of attention It was a manual with clunky 1st into 2nd experience It was white (repeated for effect) The sales person loved my white vRS and offered me top money, which was nice. I drove away with; My new "same but different" has the following going for it; It's a TDI DSG 2 years newer (2015) Updated Maxidot + audio system Better colour (not white) Identical spec, all except a heated windscreen - but I'm ok with this So I'll be playing around with this car a lot more, and already have many, many orders awaiting delivery. First observations; The wheels have been refurbed poorly - and will be replaced soon The DSG gearbox takes some getting used to, but I prefer it (it's the 6 speed one) I think the stop/start feature on a DSG is a complete waste of technology and I find myself disabling it every time I start the car There is a weird clicky noise coming from directly behind the steering wheel as I turn it from left to right (or vice-versa) - which I need to investigate - has anyone else got this? It hasn't got SatNav - but I don't mind this. I'll get some more pics up as things progress - any advice on the above would be great. Welcome any thoughts. Thnks, J

Hi Luke, I'm going to follow this thread as I own a 2013 Octavia vRS TDI Estate (Manual) and I'm interested in other responses regarding suspension and splitter I think alot of people go towards the H&R suspension route as it appears a nice balance between stance, affordability and ride comfort. The serious fanatics go for a full coil suspension setup (but that's usually expensive). I had my manual vRS tuned by Darkside Developments using a rolling rode to design to map for my car, rather than an "off the shelf" map. It's a Stage 1 and designed for stock parts. I love it! my car is a very different machine both in terms of torque and general drive-ability. I don't try to thrash it everywhere, but it's good to know the extra punch is there when I want it. DSG maps usually compliment an ECU tune. The map changes the behavior of the gearbox, keeping it in the desired gear for longer before the car looks to shift up. You might lose 1-2mpg with the higher revs, but it makes for a much smoother experience, especially with the extra power from your Stage 1. Splitter - I've seen hundreds of posts on here where people buy from superskoda.com or an eBay equivalent (specific page for splitters: http://www.superskoda.com/Skoda/OCTAVIA-III/Front/). I'm looking into this also, so keen for others to perhaps share a picture of what they've bought on your thread, along with a link perhaps? If you do upgrade your parts - don't forget the pics!
  15. I bought the CRD3+ box from Dtuk and installed it myself on my 2013 VRS TDi about 2 years ago. Its ran perfectly fine and provided noticable improvement to general drivability and torque. Everyone has preference to their favourite settings, but I was just happy on Program/Setting 1:1. I ran the car on vPower throughout so can't comment on fuel saver setups. Noticable improvements to consumption if driven "normally". No lights, errors, stutter or issues with Boost Sensors (as reported on earlier versions of the vRS & DTUK boxes). I removed the entire system last week, and opted for a custom remap now that my car is no longer on a warranty agreement. If your interested in it, get in touch.
