Difference between 18 inch and 19 inch ride quality

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just wanted to get a view from VRS owners on the differences in ride quality between the 18inch wheels and 19inch extreme wheels.

Looking at ordering a VRS which I have spec’d and like the look of the 19’s but don’t want to compromise the ride quality.

Currently have a Fabia VRS with Eibach springs which is great but want to move to something bigger and a little easier on the back and teeth on UK roads. So with the 19's am I getting a similar ride?

I am arranging test-drives of each but having to go to different dealers to arrange as they don’t have both.

Having not driven one yet was hoping to just get a view before I do..

Thanks

No difference in the drive to be honest mate. I'm in Manchester if you want a spin in my diesel VRS with 18s. I went with 18s as im not keen on the Xtrene wheels. I am looking at a set of Audi 19s though for the summer.

I've got the 19" Xtremes and find the ride a little hard - but I'm coming from a soft Renault Koleos.

I took a test drive in a vrs on standard wheel and don't think there was any big difference between the two.

Took the 18" as I was also told that it would be "softer" on the road. And it is indeed comfy

Never tested the 19" though, so can't really tell if there's a difference ^^

I had a fabia before my Octy with 19's and the ride is fine. I much prefer the look with the bigger wheels and I'm sure you'll regret not speccing them.

Cheers for the feedback. Looking forward to my test drives now... Think I will try the 19's first...

I have a Fabia lower with HR's which is a tiny bit more course than the Eibachs My feedback is the Octavia is a definite improvement on comfort and refinement on 18's. I'd go 18s myself no need to go any bigger ?

Extremes are nice but a bit too showy for me, the (Gemini?) are slightly more old school, subtle so depends what you are looking for?

I always associated the new car with the Extremes thanks to the ads, didn't know they even had Geminis, but I personally don't mind the fact the car I got has these rather than the Extremes as they aren't bad alloys (other than they would be a pain for refurbishing thanks to 3d profile !)

Pertinent question, as i'm in the same boat. Although personally I'd be prepared to put up with a marginally harsher ride if i felt the look was worth it, but i have an aversion to rims that stick out from the tyre, which the extremes seem to do.

I do like the revo rims though so if 19" is bearable i'd be inclined to go for 18" and keep for winters, then go with some anthracite 19" revos

I've got 19's on mine, the ride is not that bad. And from memory not really different from the test drive with 18's.

But what I class ok might be dire to someone else.

Running the MK2FL on both, back to back there was little difference. Also what tyres you run make a difference, softer tyre wall etc.

I've just switched to 19's from the stock rims and I'm quite happy with them to be honest. Certainly nothing worse about the ride over the stock ones, better if anything.  Most of my driving is local roads/town driving with occasional motorway.
