Scout Transmission/steering/ brake jolt?

Featured Replies

I recently got rid of a VW Tiguan after only 6 months because a) I did not like the electric handbrake and B) more concerning because when reversing and turning it had a jolt somewhere in the transmission or steering/ brake  operation.

It went back to VW 6 times, once for 17 days and they then concluded it was my style of driving. This was despite the fact a technician could get it to happen on my vehicle and other Tiguans. VW just do not have the answer as to what is causing it-other than the way I drive of course!

I subsequently changed to a Scout as I'd previously had an Octavia 4x4.

Sadly this car (the Scout) which is new has begun to exhibit a similar phenomenon! There appears to be a jolt from the transmission/brakes or steering when reversing slowly and turning right or left.

It has begun to drive me mad! It cost me to change to get away from what I considered to be a fault on the Tiguan and now it seems I'm lumbered with the same phenomena on the Scout which I understand has a similar transmission setup to the Tiguan.

I haven't contacted Skoda yet as the car has only done a 1000 miles and I want to see what happens.

Has anyone any experience of this "jolting" or any idea what could be the cause?

I too have a Scout, every now & then when reversing say out of a parking space I get a slight clonk, it is as if one wheel has slipped on a loose metal cover on the road.

Is this similar to what you are experiencing?

Not noticed it in our scout yet, but i do notice a clonk sometimes when pulling away or reversing from being parked in the vRS

Its exactly as you have described! Any ideas what it may be? Have you had it investigated?

Have now contacted Skoda UK for a response. I hope I don't get the same nebulous reply I got from VW!

I have not reported this yet, I'm more concerned about the morse code beeps that keep coming form the Radio & Sat Nav

Sorry for resurrecting this old thread, but this strange behaviour seems to be exactly what my scout is doing. Did you ever find the cause? Thanks. Nick

After retrofitting cruise control, my steering seems to be doing this. Some sort of clonking sound or like the tyre is going over some gravel when reversing out of the driveway in the morning. But this seems to occur only after the car has been parked for about 7-8 hours.
