Saved thanks to the Josh sumpguard GB

Featured Replies

Went slightly off road today in the snow, front end landed on a 6" log, sump saved by the metal sumpguard, front wheels were actually off the ground when I eventually stopped.

Anyone thinking about it. BUY ONE.

Well done Josh.

Pictures may follow.

No several wild ones.:D

By the way I tried the 15" ones and the vibration stops. Must just be the bigger tyres tread pattern.

I had a bit of experiment myself, and if I floor the car in 6th at 60 mph, its like someone rocking the car back and forth, Im just gonna bite the bullet and get it done, I'll get xmas out the way first though hopefully.

Thanks for those screwdrivers btw, came in very handy, I was gonna give you a bell and see if you wanted to go to the scottishVAG meet at the hungry horse in kirkcaldy yesterday, but by the time i got their PM it was too late  so i'll just pass them on next time i see you :D

Sorry but my mind wandered there for a minute 'several wild sheep, a big log & 15 inches' - must stop reading too quickly :naughty: :D :D

I'm guessing you've swapped wheels?

* must fit that guard *

Glad the sump guard did it's job!

I feel SO much happier driving around knowing that my sump has some protection.

Any plans for another run of these Josh? What did they end up costing all-in?

Steve

£230 gets you the guard, sound deadening, delivery and pays the tax man.

If 5 or more people are interested then we can do another run.

Think I might ask my mate to fabricate something simple for me too - perhaps just three welded in bits of steel to run under the sump? I need something thats for sure.

Just get him to make you a full 360 degree roll cage ( external).:)

of course the best way to protect your sump is to drive normally on the roads.

You are indeed correct, but if your car is running a bit lower than standard then best to provide additional protection. I am in no doubt that if running a standard plastic undertray yesterday I'd have been at the stealers for a sump etc. My slide was at 15mph where there was drifting snow on top of the grit.

I don't think I understand what you mean by "driving normally".

The PD130 sump sits very low anyway, but because I have lowered my car, my sump guard is about 2" off the road surface and even driving normally around the peak district, I have hit and had near misses with many objects in the road (top stones of drystone walls, bits of wood, other rocks, etc etc) which are very hard to avoid on small country lanes.

There was a guy on here in the spring/summer who had a standard Fabia vRS and couldn't avoid hitting a large piece of wood on the motorway which put a big hole in his sump. I can't see how he wasn't "driving normally on the roads".
