How do you remove this cover?

Hi lads,

I've got a slight leak onto the passenger side floor.

It's the smallest amount of water that is dripping from behind the glove box up in the bulkhead area.

Water is running off the windscreen onto the plastic covers at the bottom of the screen as it should and then the water goes into the trough underneath.

How do I remove the plastic cover, especially the one on the passenger side?

I've removed the cushioning rubber that clips at the front but then the cover seems to be clipped under the screen.

I didn't want to proceed cos I may break something when there's an obvious easy way to do it.

Thanks very much. Zorst?ken

No The plastic vented cover that's at the bottom of the windscreen on the outside.

The drivers side has the two windscreen wiper lugs coming through it. The passenger side doesn't.

It's clipped on under the windscreen so how.

The trim piece you describe is moulded with a low profile 'tang' (at right angles to the bit you can see) along its entire length.

This 'tang' is held in a rubber strip that is fitted along the entire width of the windscreen mount.

The plastic trim is a little brittle if bent too far, this is probably worse when cold. If a force is used to lift it then it is best spread over a large area.

If you push the trim left and right, you may be able to spot what stays behind and what lifts up.

A strong washing-up liquid solution might lubricate it a little.

Do you have sunroof in your car? If you do then there is a slight chance that drain pipe blocked with an old leaves and the dirt this way water flows over the drain and leaks behind the glove box.

Thanks for getting back to me me lads.

No i don't have a sunroof but good idea.

Thanks for the picture that does help. since i started the thread i poured water down the windscreen so it would go in the trough under the windscreen plastics and waited.

The water poured out from behind the inner wheel arches, which is fine, that's what i want it to do.

That still doesn't tell me where it's coming in, but it's not done it since.

cheers, Ken/Zorst

Thanks to the information in this thread I just removed the plastic cover on the passenger side to check for crud blocking the drains. Initially after pulling forward the rubber bonnet seal to expose the front edge of the plastic trim I was unable to get it to budge. I then used a toothbrush and some neat surfex to clean the 1mm wide groove between the plastic and the windscreen rubber. After that I lifted the forward flat edge slightly and palm upwards could get a hand in the gap under the cover to push upwards. The cover came straight out easily and without damage.

There was a lot of soil and compost to clean out around the base of the fan intake which meant removing two more torx 25 screws and the cable clips on the intake shroud and two smaller torx screws holding the ribbon cable for the front heated screen.

I cleaned both the plastic cover and the windscreen rubber groove again with toothbrush before reassembly which meant the cover clipped back with a firm push in its original groove to sit neatly.

Car is a 2014 FL Superb Estate.
