2008 L&K Octavia Estate - The Family Wagon

Featured Replies

So after trawling through some extremely useful info n this forum and getting some useful hints and tips I went to pick this up yesterday...

It's the BKE 2.0 PD TDI in beige (!) and has the usual L&K kit, it's fitted with the black half leather grey alcantara heated seats (which were my preference as I have the same set up in my Passat).  It's also got Xenons which I'm really happy about.  The cars done just under 50,000 miles and drives very nicely.  We may get a sat nav in the future, but blew the budget on this one as originally we were looking at cheaper cars with just over 100,000 miles on the clock.

I was planning on chopping the Passat in on the deal, but no-one wanted to give me any decent money for it.  So we (I) traded the Bora instead and the Passat remains for now...

So I'm back in the Passat and this is now the Family Wagon...

I have to admit I quite like the colour (sounds better as Cappuccino Beige) - I had thought we'd end up with a silver one.

No plans to mod this as it's not 'mine'....  But it could benefit from new plates (the front one's cracked and faded).

Will look to see what the sat navs go for later...

Edit - a bit more money than I was thinking... I guess it doesn't matter if it's a VW or Skoda unit???

Well mission accomplished - she loves it.

Need to get the power washer fixed now though - looks like she's taken it for a spin round SS3 this morning...

A cracked N/S mirror casing is the only real blemish to the exterior....

They are blue tinted (might be the phone pic) - I wasn't aware that the wing mirrors could be auto dimming...

Ah - in that case neither of the wing mirrors are, and the earlier L&K model (on an '06 plate) that I went to look at didn't have them either...

In fact I hadn't twigged that any cars had these full stop - what a good idea!

I'm pretty pleased with the motor - but last night I noticed an annoyance.  When I turned the radio on (with the ignition off) the backlight to the radio didn't come on.  It seems I need the headlights on to make it work - is this right?

I think mine does the same.

Random question, but where is your ASR or ESP button?

  • Author

Dunno - it should be beneath the air con controls on the drivers side - opposite to the air bag off button?

I think mine does the same.

It seems an odd arrangement - as I don't drive the car that much, I had no idea what I was doing in the dark and decided it was best just to turn it off again!

Have you got the standard stream mp3 unit? If so there are 2 settings for lighting.  Not got a link to the stream manual at the moment,  but will try to post it up later.

Mike

I've no idea - how do I tell?

From your picture, you have the Audience MP3.

New boots all round (Hankook Ventus V12 Evo 2 K120 225/45 ZR17 94Y XL) not only improving the ride but also the MPG.

The Bridgestone on the front had a crack in the sidewall = slow puncture (it was on the inside so I couldn't get a good look at it!)

Lassa's from the rear are likely to find their way onto the rear of the Passat as they're nearly new...

Note for me: New tyres fitted at approx. 50500 miles

All is well, MoT due tomorrow, but in the meantime it's had a new cambelt and water pump, along with a full service (29/06/16 @56952 miles).

Feels much livelier following the service.

Flew through - unlike the Passat!!!!

It's due a service but the car is performing well (I've never really taken to it though) the wife is happy and that's what matters most...  Seems to have eaten the front tyres (had new Pirelli's fitted mid-Feb).  May be something to do with the missing ASR/ESP button???

In other News Dad chopped his 56 plate Audi A4 2.0 TDI 170 saloon in for a 63 Octavia elegance 1.6 TDI 105 estate.  He is very pleasedwith it, and after having a little drive in it I was impressed too - I felt instantly at home in it (not so with the wife's MkII).  So one thing led to another and I picked up a higher mileage 2.0 TDI elegance for myself!  New thread on the way....  but the pic says it all!

01/06/17 - Full service @69549 miles

Also replaced hazard switch, hopefully this will cure the weird indicator fault (turn right flash left)...

Another year another update...

Full service at 77664 miles (21-06-18)  Tyres were toast.  Rear were worn, one of the fronts had a bulge which happened a couple of days before it went in.

New spring drop link and top mount on drivers side front and they replaced the stalk (as there was some play) and finally the indicator appears to be fixed!

Might need the brakes doing before the MoT, but it feels fresh and eager now though especially with a set of Michelins as new boots.

Wife's happy with it - although she's admitted she prefers my MkIII!

Failed the MoT on lower rear front bushes and a bulb (not sure how I missed that one!)

All sorted now and with new discs and pads on the front.

Just need to get a pair of wing mirror indicator covers and a colour matching passenger side mirror cover (it was cracked when we bought it!) and she'll be back up to scratch...
