It could if it's actually diesel.

Fuel delivery truck at Tesco's round the corner from us a couple of weeks back put diesel in an unleaded tank by mistake. Tesco had to cough up for repairs to something like 30 cars that had filled up and driven away before the mistake was spotted..

Sounds like head gasket failure to me.

I'd say a head gasket too or maybe piston rings. How does your collant water look. Is it clear or murky. Any oil in it. Check the condition of the spark plugs. Dirty oily one's are not good. Also try running with the oil cap off. If you are getting lots of pressure there then the HG has gone alright. Sounds like you are running off a cylinder anyway.

Head gasket - bubbles in water = oil in water

""mayo" on oil cap = water in oil, thats why it was low on water - its in the oil, you normally get white smoke as well.
