Important information about your email service

Hello,

In the next few weeks we’ll be making some updates that will impact your @outlook.com, @hotmail, @live or @msn email account. Those changes will prevent your email from getting delivered to the Outlook desktop application that you use. When you notice that you stop receiving messages, simply follow these two steps:

For Outlook 2003 customers:

1.

Remove your email account from your Outlook 2003 desktop application

2.

Re-add your email account to your Outlook 2003 desktop application

For Outlook 2007 customers:

1.

Remove your email account from your Outlook 2007 desktop application

2.

Re-add your email account to your Outlook 2007 desktop application

For Outlook 2010 customers:

1.

Remove your email account from your Outlook 2010 desktop application

2.

Re-add your email account to your Outlook 2010 desktop application

When the update happens, you may not be able to refer back to this email in your Outlook desktop application. We recommend bookmarking or saving the two links (remove and re-add) in steps 1 and 2 above that apply to the version of Outlook that you’re using. Remember, you can always access this message by logging in to your account at www.outlook.com at any time.

If you don’t know what version of Outlook you have, you can click here for instructions to find out.

Thank you for your understanding and continued use.

Yours sincerely,
The Outlook team

Anybody else with a MS account got one of these ? Good-looking Spoof ?

In 15 years of office usuage don't recall having to do this before ?

Time to switch to the "Sleeper" accounts ?

15 years of Office use isn't exactly the same as 15 years of Hotmail use...

Personally, given that it only applies up to 2010, I'd suggest that it's probably turning off legacy POP/IMAP access (which Hotmail used to use years ago) and moving everyone over to ActiveSync (which is what they do now). The implication being that Outlook 2013 and 2016 users are probably already using ActiveSync since that would have been configured for them during the setup wizard.

Whether the email is a spoof or not, removing and re-adding your account is something that you'll be doing on your own computer, it doesn't involve giving anyone access. The links may turn out to be dodgy (I'm not clicking them) but as long as you know how to remove and re-add an account then you can do it without clicking anything in that email which pretty much makes it safe.

2010 user here and nope nothing like that.

It was the embedded links in the E- Mail that raised my suspicion.

And of course, Office 2016 is in the process of being launched - prime time to piggy-back a bit of criminality on a genuine event.

I only know one person still using Outlook, arent M$ trying to kill it off for all non-corporate customers??

The links appear to point to Microsoft, and Office 2016 has been out for quiet a few weeks already. I've had the full version installed as part of my Office365 sub for sometime already on both Windows and Mac.

I doubt they'll ever kill it but they will continue to try to push people across to O365.

Just like everyone else they don't want you to ever own anything just pay for an endless subscription.

Can't beat endless subscriptions; I'm currently building a 1:1 scale replica of the Enterprise D from DeAgostini.

Complete in 6000 monthly issues. First issue was only £1.99 which is what got me. :( 50 bars of gold pressed latinum/ issue  thereafter

that's the way it works.

Most people don't add things up over time. Much like phones.

And corporate accountants love revenue.

yep. It's the holodecks I'm building it for though :bandit:

I ditched Outlook /Outlook express when W7 came in, and opted for Windows Live mail .just as easy to use ,and configure .

I would rather go and get a few real Orion slave girls.

live mail is being killed off. Iirc it's death is scheduled for early next year.

In Windows 8 & 10 you'll be forced to use the appalling mail app.

By killing off features from Windows 7, Microsoft are trying to force people on to Windows 10.

not working ,for me .I've got mail installed on 7, and ,TBH, I can't see any advantage to using 10, so I've got it ,simply because ,I might be an old geek, but I'm a techie old geek --oh, i did mention I'm Scottish ( NO-NOT Scotch, that comes out of a bottle :nerd: :cocktail:), and I'll try anything free. ( Scots, are like the Yorkshires, but a bit more generous-runs to hide in fallout shelter  :| ).

I doubt they'll ever kill it but they will continue to try to push people across to O365.

I bought my windows 8 laptop about a year and a half ago with Office 365 on it, when the subscription ran out I dug out my old copy of office home and student 2007 and installed that, still had one licence left on the disk. :)

BTW- for those who like office 200/2003 ,or like me have tried later versions of Office and wonder why MS have tried to re invent the wheel, I've found that office 2000/2003 works as well on W7  & W10 as it does on XP. Only reason I can see for Office 2007 was to give MS Office trainers more work as 2003 followed on from 2000 as did 2000 from 97. As far as I'm concerned , Office 2007 was the Vista of Office software.

For 90% of users Office 97 was overkill.

In fact most of them could probably get away with Wordpad.

WE only use office 2010 because SWMBO got a cheap license through the school. Otherwise we'd be using LibraOffice.
