Could be faulty switch in boot door lock mechanism. That one triggers lights on.

I would second a possible faulty boot lock. I think it uses earth switching for the lights which is on the boot lock.

  • 5 months later...

Sorry to dig up an old thread I've had my mk1 octavia estate for about 6 months and never have my boot lights worked and if unlock my car and only open the boot the rest of the car will lock it's self again I'm pretty handy with a multi meter so some pointers in the right direction would be lovely or does it sound like nackard locking mechanism in which case is it as simple as replace and it'll all work again and side note the central locking works on the boot so does the washer and window heater all fine just no lights and no on dash warning that the boot is open

I would say it's the microswitch in the boot latch there are plenty in eBay second hand and fairly cheap.
