Dragon Tuning Box

Featured Replies

I've had a thought - just want to know what you guys think.

I'm considering loads of options at the mo regarding my fabia vrs. One is the dragon tuning box.

I've had a thought - the Dragin box has a live 12 volt feed from the battery. Would it be possible to place an inline switch on this wire with and thus provice a simple way of switching between standard and sporty, if you know what i mean. Can anyone see any problems with this set up. The reason is that through the week I only ever drive in heavy traffic - however at weekend i like to have a blast around the high peak..If i could switch the box on and off i could drive through the week with maximum economy and then switch it on at the weekend and enjoy the benefits.

Im not technical enough to imagine any problems with a set up like this - what do you guys reckon???

the box will help economy so your better off leavin it on all the time.

Hi Will, East Coast Racing make a tunning box which has 2 settings which have a difference of around 7bhp. I was told that tunning boxes increase MPG so there should be no worries there! I've seen the Dragon box but I'm going for the East Coast Racing box for my Fab vrs because of slightly more power and torque output.

Here's the East Coast Racing website so you can see for yourself.

I hope that this helps!

With no power the box probably won't pass any signals through at all so you would in effect have the cables unplugged and the car won't run.

Yep I can confirm that is indeed the case!!

Dont worry about fuel consumption, if you drive at the same speeds you did before there wont be any difference, i've not yet seen any improvement in my MPG but it certainly hasn't got any worse, unless of course you use the new found power which is all too tempting to do!!

I'd love to try a tuned Fabia VRS, My Superb pulls like a train and is an awesome weapon for overtaking even with its nearly 2 tonnes of weight!!

oh well - just a thought.

I like the look of the Dragon tuning box because it has 16 settings and i can get hold of one failry cheaply.

Has anyone compared a dragon tuning box to a proper remap? I just think that 450 quid plus vat is an awful lot of money for a proper remap - when compared to about 200 quid for a tuning box.

The other advantage of a tuningbox is that it can be completely removed for warranty issues. A remap is a little more difficult to hide.

If anybody wants a dragon box I live in st.helens and i will sell it for £150 if anybody will come pick it up

Milky, you have PM

And as well as not working with no power the ECU takes a while to adapt when the box is turned on......about a month ....quite a difference to start with but it builds up over time :)

My experience has been slightly different to be honest, I dont find it changes at all over time and stays exactly as it is when first plugged in, I do an astronomical mileage so it would have done something by now if it was gonna.

Also my 2p worth on the settings -

Mine was factory set to 13 when I recieved it, so I ran it on that for a while, performance was quite outstanding on this setting when driving hard but I found it too irritating when driving normally, it seemed as though the car was struggling and being held back at the same time, if just cruising at a set speed it would feel like the car was being held back or struggling against a massive headwind, wierd feeling, you had to actively press the accelerator to hold a set speed rather than just hold it in the same position as if you were going uphill rather than driving on the level.

I have since adjusted the setting to 11 on the advice of the Dragon technician, apparently the engine was being massively overfueled on number 13 (only Audis can cope with those levels of fuel apparently) and the car now drives perfectly again, not quite as quick but still F'ing fast. I think I will probably try the compromise setting of 12 over the next few weeks and see how that fares, the extra performance would be welcome but not the day to day driving issues that made 13 such hard work!
