The one option I missed...rear seat fold from the boot

Featured Replies

My L&K combi/estate was supplied as a demo from my dealer (well, technically as such but it hadn't been registered and thus never demo'd). Love it.

But one option I wanted which isn't there, is to be able to fold the rear seats from the back. The blanks are there for the handles...and I've asked the garage to research retro fitting. The initial response was 'we think the whole seats need to be changed in the back'. But they were waiting for further information as they've not seen the spares schedule to know if you can but a kit.

Does anyone know? Can someone with this fitted do me a HUGE favour and look to see if the backs of the seats (i.e. the catches) are actually any different? Ir is it just the trigger mechanism which may be retro fitted? Garage doesn't now have one with remote folding seats for me to look at.

Many thanks, David.

Just a suggestion, but post up some photos of yours so that owners with the rear boot release can compare.

Utterly irrelevant to your issue, but I was horrified to find the drop-rear-seats-from-the-boot mechanism in my Subaru is electric. The levers you pull activate a switch, which then powers a motor that pulls the release, not more than a foot from the switch. WTF?

It could be the Superb ones are the same, which is why they say its not feasible.

I have the option in my hatchback. It feels mechanical as you need to give it a good pull to release the seat.

Here's a photo of my nearside seat locking mechanism if you want to compare it to yours...

I’m sure I have read on here that a demo car had problems with the seat release, which turned out to be the cable that operated the mechanism.

Jaytip, thanks, you're absolutely right. I had my mental flow diagram back to front. I need to show you mine (ahem...)

So below are two pictures of mine...the question is can anyone tell of the remote can be retrofitted, and presumably into the seat back?

Anyone with this option fitted know how the mechanism gets into the seatback please?

There's a bowden cable that runs behind about 3" of plastic trim from the bottom outer edge of the seat-back.

BillyJim...very many thanks. Does sound like the mechanics thought about a seat replacement may have something if it's integral. Suspect the mechanism in the char is also different therefore. Drat!

Does the rear seat release only come on the l & k or is it on the se l exec too?

It's an option that can be specified on the SEL Exec too. £90 I believe.

Is this a like to have rather than needed ? i looked at this opition and thought for the rare time i will ever use it, its not worth it to save maybe one minute.

It's option on l&k as well

Thanks.

I can't remember the last time I used the normal release levers on my car. I'm putting stuff in the boot, so I fold the seats from there. Would I manage without it? Yeah :) Would I spec it for £90? No, but it came standard on my trim level.
