Buying VRS

Featured Replies

Hello All

I have recently discovered the delights of the Fabia VRS, and I am thinking about buying a two year old model with around 20,000 miles. I have been reading through the forums, about some of the issues with the engine, and I am now wondering whether it will be up to the mileage I will be doing. Currently I do around 20,000 miles per year (commute of around 100 miles per day 3 x per week) on mainly good A roads. I would plan to keep the car for 3 years, so would have around 80,000 miles on it my then.

Most of the VRS modelsI have seen only seem to do have done a very low number of miles. Is there a reason for this? Do people on this fine forum think the VRS will be OK for such high mileages or should I be looking at something else?

Many Thanks

Russell

Ive had mine since it was brand new with only 14 miles on the clock and now it around about 40,000 miles and only uses a small amount of oil. Your love the power of the car and I like the dsg gearbox

welcome to the forum.

One member lol-lol did over 90,000 miles with his early engine vRS, and others have done 20,000 miles a year.

80,000 miles and more should not be an issue.

you should be able to do 20,000 miles a year on a Tank Full a week of Super Unleaded.

my first one did 50k, i'm up to 55k on this one and intend to keep it , so it will be doing well over 100k....

I would expect them to make 100k without issues. If they have issues, you already know about it! lol..

I do over 20000 a year, never used a drop of oil, have used quite a few gallons of petrol ⛽....

Coming up for 8500 miles on my 2013 vrs since purchase mid July this year. No problems at all with very mixed and varied driving.A smile for every mile....

thanks, you have certainly helped put my mind at rest. I will be trading in my Alfa Romeo Giuilieta diesel, so i am sure to notice a difference in fuel consumption!!

A nice car with a nice ride, which others have changed to from a Twincharger, why are you getting rid of that?

I like the idea of an auto gearbox with the paddles, and a bit more power (my G is only 140 BHP)  Its done 50,000 miles without many issues, but would like to get rid of it before it starts to self destruct in true Alfa fashion!

Cheers

Would you really notice an extra 40bhp (roughly) in day-to-day driving?

I'm a vRS fanboy, but they can be a risky venture (the other side of the coin is there are more good 'uns than bad 'uns - I've had mine for four years and love it).

Certainly not trying to put you off though. A two-year-old vRS should have the CHTE engine and you'll still have some manufacturer's warranty to sort any issues - just check with Skoda customer services to see if any warranty work has been carried out on any car you look at.

Personally I wouldnt run the car out of warranty as they are expensive when things go wrong. Mine was a 2011 build with a new engine. Even though it never used a drop of oil, out of warranty it's a big risk as SUK don't care once that 3 years is up. But that's my experience

I said that when I bought mine - and here I am two years out of manufacturer's warranty! I do have a Skoda extended warranty on it though - not the same I know, but it gives me something to fight my corner should the worst happen (car has FDSH).
