Vrs led fogs

Featured Replies

After getting some canbus LEDs for the front fogs and trying to fit them

I have failed

The hold where the glass bit of the bulb goes is very narrow and the fatter leds will not fit :-/

Any one else found this to be the case and how/which ones do fit ?

Strange I would have thought this would be something someone would have done :-/

Are you intending to keep them as fogs or use them as DRL?

Assuming that you want them as fogs I wouldn't bother. They won't offer any advantage in thick fog and if they are used at other times (cornering fogs or for looks) then you're likely to cause glare for other drivers where a standard halogen wouldn't. Especially as they are reflectors rather than projector lamps.

If you want them for DRL use, I'm sure I've seen a thread about using the DRL module from a yeti as it fits in the fog location but I can't remember if that was pre-FL, FL or both. You'd probably get a better result this way.

You might also want to add a picture or link to the bulb you've tried to use :)

I AM wanting to code them as drl I think the bulbs are H3's

I am sure you can code them from the vagcom thing :)

Your right, on the pre-FL you can code the fogs as DRL's with VCDS. A few people fit genuine skoda LED DRL's into the fog housings as per this page: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=51239.0 If you really want DRL's that will last and look good, this is almost certainly the best option.

Otherwise, I think it's a case of trying to find a bulb that looks no wider then a standard H3. I haven't used any of these products but they look like they might fit.

I'm unconvinced that any of these will survive over long periods.

Most cheap LED replacement bulb's I've come across don't seem to last long as the thermal management on them is terrible. They tend to over drive the LED for brightness, causing them to over heat and fail. Given the DRL's will be on for extended periods they will be more susceptible to this than say indicators or reverse lights. Anything around the 500lm mark will probably be more than bright enough for DRL use and above 1000lm it's probably too bright due to the lack of beam pattern control.

Nice one

I might try a cheeky pair of those bulbs and see how they get on

You need a need a long byte CCM, which seem to be fitted from MY2008 on, so cars built from mid 2007.

The half cluster is non-Maxidot, full cluster is Maxidot (this applies to the pre-FL only)...

As has been discussed before, trying to retrofit LED bulbs into halogen light fittings rarely works very well.

Just fit these, Skoda went to the effort of designing LED DRL's to fit right into the same holes in the bumper...

Is your vRS a pre or post FL?

The fog lights on the FL are slightly different to the pre-FL. The glass is angled on the FL, the glass is domed on the pre-FL.

Pre face lift :-/

This been done on a pre fl vrs yet

They dont fit a pre face lift. All the mounting points are in the wrong location.

Also, if you bought h3 you bought the wrong bulb. You need h1
