1.2 TSI 86 ps engine

Featured Replies

Does anyone know why this engine in Octavia have 86 PS, but in Rapid 90 PS ?! Is it the same engine ?

Octavia is heavier... it saps the power :D :D :D

The Skoda Rapid 1.2TSI had a 86ps Engine,

does it now have a 90ps because it is now a Euro 6 Emission engine.

Performance must be awful in a car the size of the octavia. My wife has this engine in the fabia and I would describe it as adequate although struggles a bit on the motorway.

Be better to go for the 110ps 1.2 TSi

Its sufficient for the Octavia weight.

Am I right in thinking the 86 only has a 5 speed box?

According to Skoda UK website, only 110ps engine is available. I have the earlier 105ps 1.2tsi dsg and it has plenty of power - no ball of fire, but never feels inadequate.

The 1.2 90ps in the new Fabia does 62 in 10.9 secs and 113mph.....in other words its pretty quick really.

The Octavia isnt a great deal heavier so it will probably be just fine for those who choose it....however we dont get that engine option in the UK.

What it is is 90 ps minimum and a petrol engine.

So that is what it is, not 110ps, 122 or 140ps.  so you get what you want or need for what you do.

0.62 MPH for a Kerb Weight really tells you nothing about how a 4-5 seater car performs if you put 4 full size adults and a full boot of luggage

and go in a hilly area.

Medium to large size not very light car with 90 ps, drivable, able to keep up with traffic,

but 'pretty quick really',   doubtful.

Best drive cars rather than compare official figures given by manufacturers, some are pure fiction as we know.

I would class my VRS TSI as "pretty quick", A 1.2 Octavia pretty slow. I had a 1.2TSI rapid as a courtesy car and I would say it felt pretty pokey around town but only adequate on dual carriageway, I'm sure the 1.4 would be a decent option though.

Now isn't that funny, I would have thought it had more than enough poke for the dual carriageway unless you were attempting to outrun the police.

Personally I find the torque outputs more relevant to driving characteristics than power

Out running Police at UK National Speed limits might be less important than getting passed safely a 44 mph HGV on a road with

a 60 mph speed limit.

Torque output is certainly nice when it comes from an appropriate engine for the size or weight of a vehicle.

I have the 1.2TSI and can cruise the autobahn all day at 100 mph, bit sluggish up hills and on the pick up.

I know that this will sound like Monty the Python "When I grew up" sketch but:

Most of the cars of my youth you measured the 0-60 with a calendar,  but you learned the right technique to overtake safely.

If I could not safely overtake a lorry with a 1.2tsi Octavia in the circumstances you describe then I would give up driving completely.

Of course a bit more power is useful which why I suppose I drive a 1.4tsi :)

I think all of us over a certain age learned how to get the best out of 50 bhp or so and still can.

Not much use though these days in many areas of the UK where you have a straight on roads where there is few places suitable to pass and then they put a 'Safety Partnership Mobile Camera Van' at the end of the Straight.

There is a Pilot Scheme on the A9 which allows HGV's to travel faster on certain stretches, but sadly that has not made any difference to them

'Elephant Racing' on stretches of Dual Carriegeways or where there is a 'Crawler Lane.'.

I am sitting just now waiting for the Snow Gates to open to let me get up over the A93,

68hp and Snow tyres on,(ample power, traction, handling, braking, safety, and a great heater.) later once clear of the white roads it is likely that i will have to just keep my speed to that of the 150 hp + vehicles wearing summer tyres that will pull out to pass each time there are opportunities then find they can get no place, and we are back to single carriageway, or cr4p their self getting back over the lines..
