5000 mile review / 2.0Tdi elegance estate

Featured Replies

We've completed 5000miles over 6 months, drama free would be the initial conclusion.

The fuel economy took a turn for the better around 3000 miles but has since dropped in the cold weather. Fuel economy is averaging just under 50mpg (at least half our miles are with 2 adults and 2 children and luggage), with unloaded longer runs achieving nearly 60mpg. I'm realising that you need to stay in fourth when joining the motorway to get up to speed effectively but I like the legginess of 6th. No oil consumed so far, as it's a PCH I'm hoping that I can get away without topping it up between services!! Regenerations seemed regular and noticeable but have since subsided (which is odd).

The variable boot floor and storage further underneath is very useful for us, as is the ability to recline the rear seats from the back of the car.

I have a love hate relationship with the radar cruise control, I just wish you could turn off the radar and plain old cruise control at times.

I don't regret any of the upgrades we're paying for, elegance spec, heated seats, canton stereo, however I think we probably shouldn't have included servicing and tyres but it serves a purpose.

The paint was initially contaminated by fallout which was successfully resolved by the dealer over several visits.

Negative points:

The drivers mat is wearing thin in the high wear point under the throttle.

The wife has put several scratches on the steering column shroud with the key.

The front offside wing has a significant chip on the crease not far above the headlight.

Given the size of the tank, and the eagerness of the fuel warning light we're now running it until the fuel light is on before refuelling.

Low washer fluid warnings at motorway speeds, but not when you turn the car off are not 'simply clever' SKODA!!!!

Can you not?  That's a shame, I have ACC on my BMW and I can default it back to standard cruise if I want by pressing and holding the distance (from the car in front) buttons........

Why do you say that about ACC? It's one of the two options I didn't decided to go for but kinda wish I had, the other being self park for the front sensors.

Totally agree with the low washer warning; I'm doing "70"mph and you think now is a suitable time to address this!!?

Wish I went for the ACC too. If only because the cruise control buttons on the standard indicator stalk is so fiddly to use!

I have the auto Park and while it is great as a party trick I haven't had much use to use it to justify the price.

Auto Park and ACC came free (if you can call it that) with our car as we ordered it when there was an offer on (even though the dealer was unaware).

Love ACC, its actually quite good on normal A roads provided you are happy to chug along at the speed of the traffic.

Have never used the Auto park, but I do like the all around sensors and the "sweep" graphic, which is quite funky.

I had a number of hire cars recently that had a rear facing parking camera, now that I DO like, would certainly opt for one of those next time around.

Having been a HGV and PSV licence holder reversing on mirrors is something that comes as second nature, being able to see the rear blind spot is a definite advantage.

Both ACC & Park Assist were included free of charge which was nice as I was paying for front sensors and did not have to!!! I only use it showing people that it actually works!!!!

On the motorway, set above minimum distance (which I don't like)  people pull in front of you, the car slows down, someone else pulls in front, the next thing you know the cars doing 10mph slower than you want to and is going backwards in traffic!!! Also if there's someone in front who keeps adjusting their speed, my adjusts to suit, I don't want to yo-yo like the muppet in front, I just want to set a fixed speed and they can do what they want in front of me!

Agreed it works much better on A roads where you have no choice but to follow the vehicle in front, hence the desire to switch the radar off! The sweep is excellent, our old BMW 2005 525d had front parking sensors but didn't have sweep and working out which sensor (of 8) was shouting took some concentration.

The Octavia demonstrator I tried, an SE Business had the camera, it worked well but I didn't think it was worth paying for. I always take a mental picture of the space I reverse into before doing so, and take note of the area before getting into the car if I have to reverse out.
